here is the thing about MMI i know a few people that have gone through it. everything is done in 3 week sessions, you miss more then 3 classes you fail and start from day one of those 3 weeks. the first 16 weeks you wont even see a motorcycle, it is all class work, bookwork, and notes. after that you get hands on but you are tested every week i believe. its not a difficult course at all, and you may start out with 10 -12 dollars an hour but if you stick with it long enough your pay will get better. its like any profession, no one makes there full maximum wage right out of school.

So what can a bike mechanic expect to make, beginning, slightly experianced, and master? RTM charges $64/hour in labor, and the dealerships go up to like $92/hour, correct? How much of that does the mechanic actually take home?

Here's alittle FYI:

The shops in this area would rather hire a mechanic who's done mechanical work in the past. Car mechanic, air plane meachanic or what not then hire someone fresh out of MMI. Sure the graduates from MMI have all the knowledge on how to diagnose an electrical problem, or calculate displacement or compression. But what most of them do not know is how to actually (and efficiently) work on a motorcycle. Which alot of that will come in time. My advice to you.....

Dont waste your money. Try to get hired at a motorcycle shop doing whatever and go from there. Maybe try to get hired to change tires and basic routine oil changes. MMI is a waste of time and money.

Again this is only my opinion so take it for what it's worh.

Do we really have to fight over who uses the back brake or not?
Do you have to argue over stupid pointless shit on the Internet?

The average mechanic at RTM takes home $600 a week under the table. I only know because I use to work there. But that's about average for a well developed mechanic.
