Default Bike a good idea?

I'm spending anywhere between $50-$75 a week for gas right now,and i figured maybe a bike would be a nice way to get to work-home and the gym-home.I never drove a bike before so i would start with something small.Nothing bigger then a 600cc,but i've been looking into even smaller bikes like the Ninja 250R.Question is.How do you handle rain? What if it starts raining on the way home? How safe is it in rain? And what do you do about not gettin too wet? What do you guys think?

rain sucks... you get soaked, you have to be more cautious... 100 times more cautious than in a car, especially around corners... people in cars dont see you... you get soaked.... you can buy a rainsuit, but you still get soaked... its going to start raining every day... you will get soaked every day...

have fun!

come summer, you'd get soaked everyday. and commuting on a bike this time of year with daily showers it NOT the time to learn. if all you're concerned with is saving gas, then you might just wanna buy a beater car. i would personally never recommend a bike for commuting, for fun, hell yeah!!

I dunno,i just can't see myself driving a slow car.People always say stuff like"Oh,you drive a v8?You must be getting awefull gas mileage."But then i look at the new turbo 4 bangers, and their gas mileage is just as bad or even worse then my v8.The cars with good gas mileage are all slow as fuck.My friend drives a 2001 VW tdi.It get's over 50mpg but it's so slow i can't stand it.Bikes get great gas mileage but are not very safe.

i use mine to drive to and from work and other places and only spend 5-7 dollars a week in gas and go over 100 miles on each tank, rain isnt that bad to me, you get soaked but a little water isnt going to kill you. i enjoy my commute to work now rather then a car, only thing i miss is the music but id rather have fun, get good gas mileage and run 10's, but do what is best for you.

if you work in an office environment, it can suck really bad when you show up to work soaked head to toe, unless you are smart enough to keep dry clothes at the office, or at least some in a backpack... thats all I'm sayin...
