synthethic oil - use the best kind(most of the time its the expensive one(s) - 100% sysnthethic oil - usally 5$ per bottle- i don't know about u - but my 4 stroke engine need 4 bottles For 3.8quate(sP). oil filter, they can look it up for u with no problem . probaly 8-15$ for it - i forgot. but yeah easy shit. once u done it first time. oh yeah u going to need services manual to know how many quats(sp) of oil - cause u dont' want to much and to less oil u can try google up ur bike.

there should be a # of mililters on the oil fill cap that tells you how much it holds. not familiar with your bike but you probally have to pop off the plastics.

With that bike being so old I'd keep using whatever oil the person before you was using, but that's just me.

FYI: All the factory oils from the big 4 japanese manufactrers are Castrol oils. Castrol Actevo to be exact. Castrol GTX (car oil) is the exact same oil as Castrol Actevo, just bottled different and at a higher price for the motorcycle industry. If you notice the Actevo and factory oils are right about the same price, but the GTX is way less even though it's the same oil. Take this info. for what you want, but I have a good friend that works for Castrol.

I personally use Motul 300V with a K&N oil filter.

Motul 300V is an Ester oil, with a plant/animal base stock as opposed to a petroleom base stock. The main reason I use the Motul is because it makes the transmition feel soooooo smooth, and it has good HP gains on the dyno.

I've tested a bunch of different oils on the Dyno, here's some of what I found in brief.

All the tests were done on a 03 Honda CBR 954RR with a K&N oil filter. The temprature out side was approx. 83 deg. with 74% humidity.

Amsoil made 5.3 more hp then regular Honda oil
Motul 300V made 4.5 more Hp then Honda oil
Redline Synthetic made 3.6 more Hp then Honda Oil

All the oils used were 10w40.
I cant find the dyno chart to back up my findings, but I'll come across it sometime.
