Default Lots of dirtbike questions, help me out!

Which bike should I get?
I want a CR 125 or 250.I am thinkin 250 cause its a big bike and when I get into riding enough and get ballzy enough to handle it in full it will be a great powerful bike.I dont wanna end up with a 125 and be bored you know?

Will a Cr125 suit me? I am 6,0 150 pounds so I am small for a 250 but its all about how good of a rider you develop into ,so I aint worried bout power from the 250.

I hear 97's and up are when they started using alum frames instead of what ?
Should I look to purchase a 97 + for that reason? will I notice a drastic change from alum to whatever the other is made from?

CR,YZ,KX or RM? which make is your fav and or have you heard bad things about any of those makes?

I heard 2 strokes are phenominal for blowing up.Why would that be ?I cant see that happening cause my boy rides the shit outa his CR250 and its not had any problems yet.. I dont want a 4 stroke for sure because of power problems and shit. I just want constant high ass rev and serious power band for riding and jumping shit.I do not want a trail only bike.

Please help me out .
O I also was at PowerSports of Clearwater yesterday and a guy there told me his brother might be selling his 94 CR250 for like 1500 dollars. Is this a good deal for a 94 if its been kept in good shape and all, and because its not alum frame?

Thanks for all the help,I shall stop with the 1000 questions now

Goop,

I would reccomend you start with the 125, you can get the 250, but as a starter bike your going to have more problems with fouling the plugs cause it gets loaded up, be cause your putting around on it. A 125 is fast enough.

On the Pre97 Frames, they were some sort of metal, not sure what type off hand, but you will notice a big weight difference with the newer frame, also the 97+ has better brakes, better suspension and is a better MX bike.

The 2 Strokes are alot less reliable if unmaintained, they need alot of prevenative maint. unlike most 4 strokes witch you can just add gas and go.

As for brand, starting out I would not worry about any of that, jsut get what is cheapest, get some good gear, and boots, and give it hell(well more like its going to give you hell)!!!!

Hope this helps.

Jesse

for your weight a 125 would suit you fine as for height there is not really a difference between a 125 and a 250. its a big difference between power from a 125 and 250. but if you think you can handle it you'll be able to jump stuff easier with the 250. there is more maintenence involved with a 2-stroke compared to a 4-stroke. and the newer racing 4-strokes are just as good as a 2-stroke. i find that they are easier to ride, also there is craploads of low-end power compared to a 2-stroke so it's easier to stay on the power. as four 2-strokes blowing up i've never had any problems with that. the only thing is if you don't premix right you might seize the motor. if you are getting an aluminum frame cr try and get a newer one. i've heard that the older ones vibrate alot.

i have a 2000 Rm125 if your interested

so unless constantly giving a 250 gas I will foul plugs?
is this a golden rule for 250's alone or a 125 also?
I mean 125's have a serious band also and because I want a 2 stroke I am gonna be revving the shit outa it constantly and I love that so it bothers me none.
I am not a beginner to riding but, I am a beginner when it comes to jumping alot of shit.My cousins all race up in NY and my lil cousin Sunny has a couple bikes, a King Cobra 50 CC that he grew out of a long time ago, and now he is on RM 80's I think and he is kicking ass, he is rated pretty damn decent in the US for his class.

I do plan on getting a CR more than anything else just because I have seen alot of Honda's being kicked around and just a good quality name brand I guess. My friend has a friend who is selling his 2001 CR250 for around 3k I think.Thats out of my league for quite some time so I really doubt im gonna spend that much.
I guess it all comes down to buying something older because its still gonna haul ass, it will be cheaper and I don want a beauty queen,I just want something that will scream and give me some weekend fun.

Jesse, thanks for all the help.

I dont think im gonna be getting alum frame because of money issues.
I am kinda in debt with my parents and working my way outa that and CC's are getting paid off currently to.So I start saving just as soon as I stop paying on my credit cards and parents.I am kinda hopin to have a small amount saved by Christmas if at all possible and then finding an older 125 or something thats gonna be like 1500 bucks or cheaper and have my parents chip in a lil for the bike.

Thanks for the help to man,I did see your bike earlier but unfourtuantely im a poor bastard...
