Default '98 R1 vs. '95 CBR 1000

I'm about to buy a bike but can't decide which one I like better.
'98 R1 10K miles $5000
'95 CBR 1000 27K miles $3300

Both bikes are in pretty good condition. I'm pretty sure that an R1 is stock and a CBR has pipes/new back tire/new chain.

I'll be using it as a daily driver for the next several months. I was also thinking about Kawasaki (7R or maybe 900), but they are so damn heavy. My boy has one and that thing weighs like 440 pounds..

Still trying to decide. It is going to be my second bike ( my first one was a 50cc dirt bike ), but I really don't want to have a headache in couple of months trying to sell that 250 or something like that. I looked at SV650s and they are just not my taste (the way they look). I'm not buying it to impress anyone-just got tired of cars and want to give it a shot. I'm pretty responsible so I don't think I'm going to have much problems with it.

Please post your opinion what kind of bike you would get under $6K. Thanks a lot.

i say get something a lil smaller like a 600, a 1000 is a big jump from a 50cc dirt bike...

Well, besides telling you that both bikes are too big for you (which most riders will tell you), I would say the R1. If I were you, and I could afford the R1, I would go with that. The R1 has less miles, and unless its been wrecked, it should not give you any mechanical problems.

Plus the R1 is lighter, and I think, it handles better. In Cycle World Online, they do yearly test and comparisons on sport bikes, and the R1 almost always comes on top. I believe it did in 98.

OR...

You can buy my bike:

yeah if u do decide u do want the 1000cc's, which quite a few of us have already recommended u not do, i would get the r1, i've ridden both and the R1 rides a lot smoother, its lighter and i think a lil quicker.

I say, and I can see that others agree with me to get neither of them. Buying a 1000 CC motorcycle as your first bike would be an uber big mistake.I wouldnt suggest going over 600cc.

My friend has a '94 750 Kawasaki (stage 1 jet kit, full Muffy exhaust, K & N filter). I asked him what I should get-he honestly thinks I should get a 1000..maybe 900 RR or 929 RR. He started his bike history about six months ago with an '03 or '04 Kawasaki 250 R Ninja. He told me it was a waste of time and he could get on his 750 right away. Like I said, I don't want to have a headache of selling my bike later to get something bigger. The bike would go as fast as you want it to, depending on a throttle position (that's what he always says).
I saw that '98 CBR 900 RR for $5500 at R & R Performance. Mint condition, brand new paint, 20 K miles. Polished frame, blue visor, chrome wheels, etc. The only problem is that bike is way too nice for me (I'm gonna put it down anyways, lol). Still trying to decide, but an R1 sounds really good to me.
I'm also going to go to MSF class (probably next week). Everyone I spoke to reccomended it to me so.
Thanks a lot for your opinion guys, I'll tell you what I bought in just a little bit.

just remember everyone drops there bike at least once. Not trying to be negative, just telling you the facts. Be safe.
