Question looking for a Bike!

Hey guys, this is my first post. So, I'm all hot-and-bothered because I recently graduated USF and am looking to spend my graduation money on a bike. I've wanted one for years, but have never actually gotten around to buying one. I've never ridden a bike before, but I have some friends that are going to teach me, and I'll be taking a Motorcycle rider and safety course. I want to make sure I ride correct and safe up until my programmed death at 29.

Anyway, I'm looking to spend between $3000 - and $3500 so I can afford appropriate gear (jacket, gloves, boots, pants, helmet, etc). Anyone have a bike, or know someone willing to sell a decent sportbike to a charity case please let me know! I'm interested in Yahama R6's, Suzuki GSR600 or 750, or any other bike really. Someone had a katana 600 for sale for 3500 but it had 25k on it and was repainted and had been sitting for a while. I'm really looking for a nice looking bike with enough power to have fun but not enough to be out of control. Someone help me please! I'll take any help I can get, and that includes advice! If I had the money I'd buy a brand new bike, good thing I don't, I'm kind of compulsive like that.

Thanks!
