RFK to honor Biffle at Darlington

RKF Racing announced Thursday it will pay tribute to its former driver, the late Greg Biffle, with throwback paint schemes at Darlington Raceway.

All three cars will feature design elements from paint schemes Biffle drove during his NASCAR Cup Series career. The same number font will also be used, resembling what No. 16 looked like when Biffle drove it. RFK Racing previously did so with the number font at Daytona International Speedway for the season-opening Daytona 500.

“The memory of Greg Biffle’s adventurous spirit, his fun-loving personality, and his endearing appreciation for his fans will forever be remembered and embraced by the NASCAR community,” RFK Racing president Chip Bowers said. “The three selected throwback color schemes showcased humbly by the No. 6, No. 17 and No. 60 represent incredible moments in Greg’s storied career and offer fans, friends, and family alike an opportunity to reflect on the man and the competitor that we’ll forever remember with fondness and reverence.

“Darlington Raceway, one of Greg’s favorite tracks, serves as the perfect backdrop for all to relive his indelible impact on the sport.”

On the No. 6 for Brad Keselowski will be the colors green, yellow, black and white. Chris Buescher’s No. 17 will have blue, black, and white. And on the No. 60 of Ryan Preece will be recognizable yellow, red, black, and white.

RFK Racing did not specifically mention which former Biffle paint schemes the designs came from. However, the Keselowski colors seem to throwback to a former Scotch scheme of Biffle’s whereas the Buescher and Preece one from 3M-sponsored paint schemes. The scheme on Preece’s car is what Biffle drove as his primary during the 2009 season.

In addition to the paint schemes, the NASCAR Experience, one of the activations in the fan midway, will have one of Biffle’s No. 16 cars on display at Darlington Raceway. There are also other tributes planned for him during the weekend.

There will also be a commemorative hood fans can sign during the weekend. It will be placed in the Darlington Raceway Stock Car Museum after the race.

Biffle, his wife Cristina, children Emma and Ryder, Dennis and Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth were killed in a plane crash at Statesville Regional Airport in December. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff when the plane attempted to return to the airport.
