Michael Vozzolo 21 hours ago Make sure it can accommodate 28 IndyCars, please. I'm thinking somewhere between a mile and a mile and a half. Not too flat not too banked. Indycar needs this type track to complete the range of tracks they compete on.

  Eric Steinmetz Michael Vozzolo 21 hours ago As much as I think a lot of people can agree with your sentiment, if NASCAR ends up building the short track it will be built to their needs and no one else’s. If I remember correctly, I think there’s pictures floating around that show that ISC owns part of the parking lot now and nothing more, which wouldn’t allow for much more than a half miler to be built anyways. IndyCar’s future in SoCal is Long Beach and nothing more, so they better hope that the promoters and city keep renewing that contract.

Steve Singiser 20 hours ago editedI want this to happen, but I read in an article in local media that they sold all of the current site except for less than 100 acres. Dunno if you can build a track of any description with a footprint to handle all the extra stuff (parking, camping, offices) in 100 acres. I don't think any of the existing Cup short tracks are on that small a tract of land. I know Steve Phelps says they have renderings, so....man, I'd love to be wrong.

  Maxwell Cabral Steve Singiser 15 hours ago The bigger problem in my mind is that they’re worried about inflation, interest, and cost of capital… right after a huge cash infusion from selling the track’s land. That sounds a lot like it’ll only happen if it’s someone else’s money on the line.

Now, the track will also be relegated to history.

Would be interesting to see how an alternate time line might look if his old boss had remained in track business.

    pacificcoast 18 hours ago And the NASCAR dummies who decided to demolish this gem really needed to look at history. Just because they fill the LA Coliseum, doesn't mean there is a thirst for a short track in the Inland Empire versus a superspeedway. They should have read the May, 1981 issue of Car and Driver magazine and the story about the closure of Ontario Motor Speedway. Article said that not a lot of people wanted to drive 50 miles into the California desert to watch cars go around in circles for hours. Doesn't matter if it was a short track or a super speedway. For what they are spending to demo the track and rebuild it as another dumb short track, they could have repaved the 2 mile oval, and had a lot of money left over.

      The sad fact is that land is more valuable as real estate than a race track, it was either sell most of it and built a short track or just make it a footnote as something cool having been where a warehouse is now.

    John Severinsen 15 hours ago Funny, it took over eight months for ISC to do a update on the proposed half mile. Local politicians and media still think the track won't be built. And the track website was shut down months ago, no "coming soon" signage at the track site, etc., etc. ISC is probably just waiting to see their remaining Fontana property increase in value. They are happy with the Coliseum as their LA market site, and the Coliseum hopes to renew the contract after the 2024 race.

      NorthstarMN RIR fan 4 hours ago The plan was to re-use pretty much everything but the track itself and the portion of grandstands that currently stretch beyond where the new track will be. There were questions of the feasibility of that though and given the lack of updates who knows what the current plan is.

        Dave Mathers 2 hours ago It's about 35 miles down 210 from Fontana to Irwindale Speedway. Build houses at Fontana and spend a bunch of money to update Irwindale.

        Humberto Saabedra Dave Mathers an hour ago Irwindale and Torrance are landlocked, so I'm not sure how you can expand and reconfigure the track without buying out the surrounding properties from owners that will more than likely refuse to sell.
