With the top five all running at reduced speed behind the ailing Daniel Ricciardo, and tire degradation concerns leading to a conservative pace from the rest of the field and a lack of incidents, Alonso says the fans deserved better.“Extremely boring,” Alonso said. “This is probably the most boring race ever. Without a Safety Car, without yellow flags… I think the sport needs to think a little bit about the show, because this is very disappointing.“There is no pace, there is no speed. You follow the other cars in front of you.

I think in Monaco with these wide cars, no Safety Cars, no yellow flags, nothing, I think probably we need to give something to the fans at the end of the race to pay a little bit back their ticket.”Alonso continued to criticize F1 after the race, too, tweeting that he was looking forward to the Indy 500 and was “ready to watch and enjoy the RACE of the day,” before later describing it as a “great race and show” when congratulating winner Will Power on social media.Reflecting on his retirement — his first of the season — Alonso says he was guaranteed points in seventh place before the issue despite being chased by Pierre Gasly on fresher tires.“Two laps before the stop, we had a loss of power, and then at the end we were stuck in fifth gear. I don’t know if it’s an engine problem or a gearbox problem or something in between. Obviously disappointed. We were seventh at that point, secure in seventh because there are no overtakes at this place. They were good points for the team, but unfortunately we could not see the checkered flag.“I think the car was OK. We were the fourth- or fifth-quickest team. The first three teams, we knew that they were out of reach, so we were fighting with Force India and ourselves to be the fourth quickest.
