After Dunlop supplied all the LMP2 class teams in the FIA World Endurance Championship with tires in the 2017 season, RACER has learned that Michelin will be present with at least one of the teams for the 2018/19 Super Season.
Elton Julian, team principal of the American-flagged LMP1 and LMP2 team DragonSpeed, has told RACER that its LMP2 efforts in the ELMS and FIA WEC this year, utilizing ORECA 07 Gibson chassis (pictured), will be with Michelin rubber. He also confirmed that DragonSpeed would run with Michelin tires with its BR1 Gibson LMP1 chassis.
DragonSpeed's WEC LMP2 entry currently has ex-Manor WEC driver Roberto Gonzalez as a confirmed driver, with the team keeping its full-season driver plans close to their chests at the moment.
Racing Team Nederland, which will run a Dallara P217 in the FIA WEC this season for the first time, also sampled the Michelin rubber at the same Motorland Aragon test as DragonSpeed last month. But the team told RACER last week that it hasn't made a decision yet on which tire brand it will use.
The last time Michelin supplied tires in LMP2 in the FIA WEC was back in 2016, when IMSA regular Extreme Speed Motorsports ran both Michelin and Dunlop rubber during the season on its Ligier JS P2s.
