Say McLaren and you say Formula 1. Very fast cars, daredevils like Mika Häkkinen, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. These Formula 1 racing cars may look tough, but they crave a lot of care and attention. They are more sensitive than a sleep deprived person with a bad hair day before their first cup of coffee, -- much, much more sensitive.

F1 cars have hundreds of sensors to measure just about anything, and the data will be sent back to the garage by telemetry. The data is used to fix problems and make the car faster. Measuring is not enough though. Raw data is nothing without someone to interpret them and turn them into knowledge. But wait a moment. Wasn't this TEDxNijmegen thing about health? Well. Yes. Enter Birmingham Children's Hospital. Here, it's all about the kids. Kids who have crashed, or are about to crash, or who really oughtn't crash again in order to survive. Peter van Manen, Managing Director of McLaren Electronics explains: in this hospital, data is collected like they are in Formula 1 racing. At the pediatric IC, the patients are just as sensitive as racing cars -- more so, even. So many things can go wrong. But like racing cars, patients can provide lots of data on which to act. These data can be used to prevent, to solve problems and to make things better. If you know what is normal for a child, and see how different that is from what is actually happening, you can prevent disasters from happening. Interpret the data right, and you can prevent heart attacks, for instance. Combined with the early warning system the hospital was already using. The F1-system saved lives. But if this approach is successful, why not use it outside hospitals? Think big, think smart: and here is where cars come in again -- the ambulance, actually. Use the sensors there, and you can turn the ambulance into an extra IC bed. Store the data, interpret them, and tease out patterns. Like collected and correctly interpreted data can prevent a sleek racing car from crashing, it can help children survive. Which is great, because then you can take it to the race track.

You will not believe this about Formula Racing | Sneha Sharma | TEDxSurat

Sneha Sharma is a racer and a pilot. She shares here journey of being in the cockpit and compares it with how does the world look at formula racing. Flies at 871 kmph in the sky, and races at 270 kmph on the ground, commonly known as “India’s fastest lady,” Sneha Sharma is an Indian formula racing driver who competes in Formula 4 racing championships, and is also professionally a pilot with IndiGo airlines. At the intersection of profession and passion, speed and limits, Sneha remains undaunted and believes in pushing boundaries with her consistent podium finishes.

She’s been racing nationally since she was just 17, more often than not she was the youngest and only girl on championship tracks. She believes that “When I am in my helmet, I am not a man or a woman; I am a racer.”

Must watch if your taking your car to the track. Taking my car out on a race track really made me love my car even more. Not only is it a daily driver, a family car it can run a track day with no problems FAST. Thanks to Adam Pike for helping with camera work More info from a fellow Subaru owner and a track day enthusiast. Great info but I'd recommend a few extra things.

Two piece vented rotors from performance friction, Join the nsw wrx club with Luke and learn some faster lines and learn slow in fast out of corners. You will drop seconds straight up. Don't do full 20 minute sessions on close to stock or semi racing pads they fall apart when over heated.

Racing brake fluid will reduce brake fade. Full racing pads will last better. At least do a couple of cool down laps in each session. Keep your number plates on and take you helmet off and go for a 2km drive down the road to cool every thing off a little before parking. Have fun. ;)

Prep your car for the track
less about track prepping and more like proper maintenance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8mDGFHBWfk

Diff/trans/engine fluids always need to be changed, not just if you go to the track, just more so if you track your car. And brake fluid only really needs to be changed once every two years if you're using an OEM type brake fluid. The motul last about 1 year. This is because all brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it pulls moisture from the air and will lower the boiling point of the brake fluid as it accumulates more water.

How to heel and toe like Senna

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6yAO1ziQ8o

by Driver61

Driver 61's professional racer, Scott Mansell, explains what the heel and toe technique is all about and how to rev match in your road, track day or race car. For the full article and cheat sheet go to: http://bit.ly/D61HeelAndToe

Here's what we're going to cover: - What the heel and toe technique actually is - Why we would want to downshift this way - A step by step guide about how to heel and toe, including the order of your inputs and how to position your feet - The best way to practice heel and toe, so you’re well prepared before you try it on the circuit Heel and toeing is a technique whereby you match your car’s engine speed or revs to your car’s wheel speed to create a smooth downshift.

If you don’t match the engine’s rev to the wheel speed you risk locking up the driven axle and destabilising the car. You do this by using your right foot across both the brake and accelerator pedals; toe on the brake and heel (or the side of your foot) on the accelerator pedal. If you want to learn more about driving on track, please visit the Driver 61 website at http://bit.ly/d61University

senor honda 12-22-2017 10:14 AM

Belal Khan

As Scott Suggested, the way i learned was to simply rev match on downshifts first without braking. Once you get comfortable doing that, then add the brake pedal. The hardest part for me when learning heel/toe was applying constant pressure on the brake pedal when blipping the throttle. I used to apply too much pressure on the brake pedal as i was pivoting my foot which caused the car to lurch.

[h=2]Bertil Roos Racing School presents opportunities to learn proper techniques[/h] Bertil Roos Racing School

Bertil Roos Racing School is the nation's leader when it comes to European-style road racing and students have plenty of opportunities over the next couple of months to learn this highly intricate form of racing.
The school has been training students for over four decades and it uses Formula cars to teach the arts of performance driving and racing. Bertil Roos Racing School President Dennis Macchio explained that every technique important to racing and driving are more effectively taught in an f-car.

"Visual training, what we refer to as ocular driving techniques are best taught in the cockpit of a car that has no A pillars, no windshield, no rearview mirror, and no forward blind spot," Macchio said. "Car control, line correction and important advanced skills are much easier to learn in nimble, lightweight, Formula cars."

The school will be available at different tracks over the next couple of months, starting with a three-day school on April 9-11 at Pocono Raceway, followed by a two-day advanced school on April 12-13.
Those interested can enroll in a five-day road racing school with no prior experience required. Upon completion, you will have fulfilled all the requirements of a SCCA competition license and are eligible to enter the Roos Formula 2000 Racing Series.
http://www.racer.com/images/2018/Apr...RRS_POC556.jpgThe three-day school is the cornerstone of the racing programs with intensive training on how to drive a race car to its limits.
Day one starts with a brief introduction in the classroom, followed immediately by a track session in one of BRRS' patented slide cars. More classroom, on-track practice with street cars and discussion leads to two on-track sessions.
Day two begins with another classroom session, followed by another session in the slide cars or street cars. Drivers get an abundant amount of seat time, perfecting skills required to advance to day three.

Day three is when the new skills are put to the test to squeeze every last tenth of a second out. A slide-car session is combined with five track sessions in the race cars. You learn techniques like Ocular Driving, Rotational Turn-In, Line Recovery, Slide Control and Heel and Toe which sets Bertil Roos Racing School apart from other schools.
The two-day advanced school is for those looking for more advanced instruction. The techniques learned at the Bertil Roos Racing School help drivers in all forms of racing.

Jarett Andretti, son of former NASCAR and IndyCar star John Andretti, provides an example. Carrying on the Andretti family tradition of versatility behind the wheel, Jarett is competing in both sprint cars and sports cars this season.
"The first road racing experience I had after go-karts was the 5-Day Bertil Roos Racing School in March 2011 at Virginia International Raceway," Andretti said. "After graduating from Roos, I went back to my normal racing schedule, USAC Midgets. We won the Eastern Pavement championship in 2011 and competed in the 50th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2012. Now, that I'm competing in the Pirelli World Challenge in addition to my sprint car schedule, I will be leaning on my Roos experience now more than ever."

You don't have to be an Andretti to experience what it's like to be behind the wheel at a Bertil Roos Racing School. The following dates are available, including a visit to the historic Lime Rock Park.
• April 9-11 Pocono Raceway 3-day school
• April 12-13 Pocono Raceway 2-day advanced
• May 1-3 Lime Rock Raceway 3-day school
• May 2-3 Lime Rock Raceway 2-day advanced
• May 7-9 New Jersey Motorsports Park 3-day school
• May 10-11 New Jersey Motorsports Park 2-day advanced
• June 4-6 Dominion Raceway 3-day school
• June 11-12 Dominion Raceway 2-day advanced
• June 18-20 Palm Beach International Raceway 3-day school
• June 21-22 Palm Beach International Raceway 2-day advanced

The Ultimate Helmet Fitment Guide

Proper helmet fit plays a crucial role in how well your helmet will protect you in the event of an accident. Plus, a great fit also ensures more comfort, which means happier driving. But there’s more to getting helmet size and fitment right than measuring your head.
https://ecp.yusercontent.com/mail?ur...Jo.IZELFTQ--~C
For example, did you know that ….
  • there’s no universal helmet sizing chart?
  • a properly fitting helmet shouldn’t touch the nape of your neck?
  • some helmet brands offer different size cheek pads for a more customized fit?
Save time and confusion by consulting our quick and easy helmet fitment guide. Learn how to accurately measure your head, determine your size and ensure safe and comfortable fitment.Still can’t narrow it down to one helmet? Take advantage of our No BS Return Policy and order several to try on and compare … we’ll give you 30 days to return the unused helmets for a full refund, and we’ll never charge a restocking fee.
