Ozz Negri Competing for Camp Boggy Creek in Las Olas Triathlon

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Donate here: http://teamozz.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1171012
As Michael Shank Racing gears up for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 18, driver Ozz Negri is adding another grueling event to his schedule during race week with the Las Olas Triathlon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 12.

Negri, who drives the No. 86 Acura NSX GT3 for Michael Shank Racing, is utilizing the event as a way to raise money for Camp Boggy Creek – a proud charity of IMSA.
The Olympic distance triathlon consists of a .93-mile swim, 25-mile bike ride, and a 6.2-mile run for a total distance of 32.13 miles – that’s almost nine laps around the Sebring International Raceway circuit!
Camp Boggy Creek, located outside of Orlando, Florida, was founded by Paul Newman and General H. Norman Schwarzkopf. The camp welcomes children ages 7-16 with serious illnesses, free of charge. Open year round, the state-of-the-art medical camp provides week-long summer sessions for more than 1,100 children each year. Camp Boggy Creek also provides retreat programs for more than 550 families between September and April.
The programs at Camp Boggy Creek work to reverse some of the emotional and physical damage caused by illness and the ordeals of treatment. The camp also aims to instill in both the children and family members an outlook that is both positive and sustainable as well as a sense of strength, courage and confidence that lasts well beyond their stay at camp. Above all else, Camp Boggy Creek inspires hope by helping children to forget their illness and to embrace the many wonderful reasons to live.
"Camp Boggy Creek is a really special place," said Negri. "When I signed up for the triathlon, I thought about how I could use that as a way to raise awareness and donations for Boggy Creek. We've already had so many donations come in and I am truly grateful to all of those that have donated already! We'd love to reach our goal in the next ten days, and maybe even double it!"
With no cost to any family that attends, Camp Boggy Creek exists strictly because of generous donors and volunteers. Negri's fundraising goal is $2,500 which covers the cost for one child to experience a life-changing summer camp session.
As of March 1, Negri had reached the halfway point of his goal. Please join Negri in his campaign to raise funds for this incredible camp by visiting http://teamozz.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=1171012.

Taylor Cadillac leads IMSA Sebring testing times

Friday, 24 February 2017
By Marshall Pruett / Image by LAT

IMSA's two-day test at Sebring International Raceway was topped by Wayne Taylor Racing's No. 10 Cadillac DPi-V.R. From the four sessions spread across Thursday and Friday, Jordan Taylor posted the fastest time of the event with a lap of 1m49.600s.
Despite IMSA's efforts to slow the Rolex 24 at Daytona-winning Cadillac model through Balance of Performance changes made leading into the test, all three factory DPi-V.R entries combined to run 1-2-3 in every session.

Taylor's best lap was 1.616s below the 2016 pole position, which is to be expected with the increased power and overall performance capabilities with the new 2017 LMP2-based prototypes.
"It was our first time there with the new car, and there was a lot to learn," Taylor told RACER. "So much of the testing we did over the winter going into Daytona was about durability running that we haven't actually been able to do a lot of performance testing with the car. It didn't start off well the first morning over the bumps, but we worked on the springs and dampers and ride height and overall it was really productive. We're leaving happy."
The WTR Cadillac drivers and those in the two Cadillacs fielded by Action Express Racing were instructed by the manufacturer to run as hard as possible during the test in an effort to dispel the belief its DPi-V.Rs were sandbagging. Taylor says he enjoyed attacking the 3.56-mile road course and pointed to the effort exerted by new WTR endurance driver Alex Lynn as an indicator of the approach taken by the Cadillac camp.
"To be honest, as a driver it's the best thing you can hear – to be told to go out and run as hard as you can," he continued. "It was great; it's an intense track in high-downforce configuration. We were definitely not leaving anything on the table; Alex actually rubbed the wall exiting Turn 17, so if that's not proof we were pushing hard, I don't know what is."
With Taylor's 1m49.600s lap as the Prototype class standard, the No. 5 AXR Cadillac (1m49.651s) and sister No. 31 DPi-V.R (1m49.687s) set nearly identical times.
The best WEC-spec P2 was fourth with JDC-Miller Motorsports' No. 85 ORECA 07 (1m50.348s) and fifth went to PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports' Ligier JS P217 (1m50.682s). Of the remaining DPis, Tequila Patron ESM's fastest Nissan Onroak DPi (1m50.767s) and Mazda Motorsports lead RT24-P (1m50.828s) were close to each other, but well shy of the Cadillacs.
In GT Le Mans, Corvette Racing's Jan Magnussen paced the class in his No. 3 Corvette C7.R (1m58.525s). The No. 3's test concluded prematurely when a drive belt problem in the engine bay sent Antonio Garcia back to the garage with approximately 30 minutes left in the final session.
The Porsche GT Team's No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR came within a few thousandths of a second of the Corvette (1m58.531s) and the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT was just over a tenth away from the No. 3 (1m58.636s).
Two-time Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya got his first taste of GTLM machinery after completing a handful of laps in the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE, and appeared to enjoy the experience.
"It's fun. It's different. I only ran, probably, eight laps just to get the hang of it a little and I'm going to try to get in a little bit later. It's fun. I've never really run the big track. It's pretty bumpy," he said.
GT Daytona was led by CORE autosport's Colin Braun in the No. 54 Porsche 911 GT3 R (2m02.476s). The continually impressive No. 29 Montaplast by Land-Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 was second (2m02.662s), and Audi stablemate Stevenson Motorsports was third with its No. 57 R8 LMS GT3 (2m02.772s).
The two-car PC class was led by Chuck Quinton in the No. 8 Starworks Motorsport entry (1m56.120s).
IMSA's next WeatherTech SportsCar Championship action will take place when the series returns for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring March 16-18.

[h=2]IMSA Sebring test Cadillac's DPi-V.R "Balance of Power" changes[/h]

Cadillac DPi slowed with Sebring test BoP

Tuesday, 21 February 2017

By Marshall Pruett / Images by LAT

Coming off its domination of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Cadillac's DPi-V.R prototypes have received a number of changes to its Balance of Performance figures aimed at slowing the cars during this week's IMSA test at Sebring International Raceway.
Those modifications, along with changes made to other models in three of the four WeatherTech SportsCar Championship classes, will be evaluated prior to solidifying the BoP for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring held on March 18.
IMSA has taken power away from the Cadillacs with a decrease in airflow to its 6.2-liter V8 engines (-1.5mm total through its two air restrictors), and taken seven liters of fuel capacity from its fuel tank (now 68L). The refueling process has also been slowed with a decrease in fuel flow (-2.5mm to the fuel hose restrictor).
Within Prototype, the two turbocharged DPis from Mazda and Nissan also received power reductions for the test through decreased boost tables. Smaller fuel capacity changes were made to four models as the WEC-spec Riley/Multimatic Mk 30 (+2.5L), Ligier JS P217 (+0.5L) and ORECA 07 (+0.5L) received increases for their Gibson V8-powered cars. The Nissan Onroak DPi lost capacity (-2.0L).
All prototypes will run in high-downforce "sprint" aero configuration at Sebring (and for the rest of the season) after using the low-downforce "Le Mans" package for Daytona.
In GT Le Mans, BMW's twin-turbo V8 M6 will test with a weight reduction (-10kg), more fuel capacity (+2L) faster refueling (+3.5mm), and boost increases throughout its rev range. Porsche 911 RSRs will also sample faster refueling (+4.5mm) during the visit to Sebring.
And finally, in GT Daytona, weight, power, capacity or flow alterations were made to four of the nine manufacturers.
Acura's NSX GT3 will run at a lower weight (-20kg) while the Ferrari 488 GT3 and Lexus RC F GT3 will carry more ballast (+10kg). Boost has been taken from Ferrari's twin-turbo V8 while the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (+1mm total across both restrictors) and the Lexus RC F GT3 (+2mm total across both restrictors) will have more power available at the test.
Fuel capacities and refueling speeds also improved for Lamborghini (+1.0L, +0.5mm) and Lexus (+2L, +2.0mm).

Ford Chip Ganassi Racing to field 3 GTs at Sebring

Thursday, 02 March 2017

By RACER Staff / Image by LAT

Ford Chip Ganassi Racing and Ford Performance are ramping up efforts to sweep three of the most prestigious sports car races in the world in theGT Le Mans category within nine months.
Ganassi Racing will add the No.68 Ford GT to the 12 Hours of Sebring, piloted by World Endurance Championship regulars Stefan Mucke, Olivier Pla and Billy Johnson. Sebastien Bourdais again will join the lineup in the No. 66 with Joey Hand and Dirk Muller, and Scott Dixon will complete the No.67 lineup with Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook.

"We wish we could send all four cars like we did at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, but the WEC cars will already be prepped for The Prologue test at Monza and the first race at Silverstone," said Dave Pericak, global director of Ford Performance. "Even though it's impossible to bring all of our Ford GTs, we didn't want to see this important opportunity to continue our cross-development pass us by."
Pla, Mucke and Johnson, who will join the full-timers at the first FIA World Endurance Championship race of the year, begin the FIA WEC season at The Prologue, the official pre-season test for the series, at Monza the week after the 12 Hours of Sebring, with the first race to follow at Silverstone in April.
The WEC crew who run the car for Mucke and Pla during the regular season will campaign the No. 68 Ford GT at Sebring.
"This is another great opportunity for our WEC and IMSA teams to work together as the opportunity to data share is invaluable," Chip Ganassi said. "There are not a lot of opportunities for us to get together, so when we have the chance we will always try to take advantage of it. Plus, to be able to bring another car to a legendary endurance event like Sebring is something special to all of us."
Ford ran two cars at Sebring last year; Dixon, Briscoe and Westbrook finished fifth in class, while Hand, Muller and Bourdais came home eighth in class.
