CFRSCCA Solo 2 program news
Ok guys, I've got a lot of information to give you. I went to Orlando yesterday to a meeting with the Poindexters (the new Solo2 co-chairs). There were a couple people from the east coast, the central area and the west coast there. All in all it was a very productive meeting. Good things are in store for us.
First of all, (and this has previously been announced on the cfrsolo2west mailing list) we have a new website for the cfrsolo2 program. It's located at http://www.cfrsolo2.com/.
Something important to note is the event at Sebring on June 7-8. Each day is a points event. If you've never done an event down there, I suggest that you plan on going as it is really a good time. The SCCA rents the entire track. The club racers use the short track for one of their events and the Solo program takes the long straightaway (essentially, a mile long stretch of concrete 500 ft wide). The surface is grippy and you can expect the course to be exceptionally fast (I spun at close to 85mph last year and still came to a stop in the middle of a sea of concrete). It's a really good time and if you can find some time, you can watch the club racers as well. It's a great experience.
You'll notice there are currently no west coast events on the calendar. That is going to change and VERY soon. FSF events will continue roughly monthly beginning in March or April. We have set tentative dates but have to verify that they are available with the Fairgrounds staff. The State Fair is currently underway currently, so we don't expect this to happen until a week or so after the fair has ended. They are exceptionally busy this time of year and understandably, don't have much time to return calls and schedule future events.
Additionally, we're looking into other sites. Two good prospects currently are the Brooksville Airport (http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.c...15746&z=17&w=1 -- the corvette club is rumored to run here currently) and the Lakeland Civic Center (http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.c...15509&z=17&w=1 -- the area we are looking at is in the bottom half of the picture).
Gainesville Raceway will continue to be an event site. We're looking at cutting it back to a single day (sunday only points) event initaily and depending how that works it may stay that way. Expect there to be one more GIR event before the summer and hopefully one or two more in the fall.
There are also going to be a couple of central events at VCC in Orlando just like there are every year. BCC will continue on as usual.
Again, the dates have not yet been set, but you should start to see them appear in the coming weeks as we get word back from the scheduling people at the various venue's.

i think i am gonna autox again this year.. been reading up on some stuff on the mach1 .. and i think a couple of events wont hurt it..
my main reason for not wanting to was fear of being stuck with a car that handles like crap.. lol.. but.. after getting to know the mach1 a little.. and learning about mustang solid rear axel suspension stuff.. plus reading some reviews from car mags about the handling..i think i am gonna give it a whirl at the next local event

Come on Tony, I posted this to let people know what's going on with the Solo program.... no need to hijack it to be a jackass to Zate.

I'm just chiming in like chet to say that I am happy to hear he will be joining us instead of babying his new ride.
Leonard, thanks for the update. I talked to Neal yesterday while they were on the way to the meeting, but didnt get a chance to talk to them after.

Sounds good.
Question on the Sebring event though. Is it being run by the same group/people that ran it last year? If so, you can count me out. The work schedule was pathetic and worker safety was laughable.

Bill,
Last year the CFR East Solo2 staff puts on that event. As it stands right now, they are running that event as well this year. The east and west coast are now cooperating much more than we have in previous seasons and I'm hoping that Sebring will end up being run as more of a joint event. We've got a lot of organizational issues to address on the west coast before we're ready to talk about that, but I'm optimistic that those things will be resolved.
If you have specific issues about how the event was run, you need to voice them. I would hate to not have you participate as Sebring is a fun event. Honestly, you should have brought them to the safety of the Safety Steward at the event. Since that was 8 months ago, that's not really practical. I'd like it if you could explain your concerns in as detailed of a fashion as possible to me. I'll bring them up to the event staff and make them an adgenda item for the next solo2 advisory committee meeting in May.
The only way we can get better is if people tell us what we're not doing right.....
