Going off course.
In Solo II, what should you do after you go spinning off course into the dirt?
A couple races back, I saw Don ride in the grass the whole ways back to the finish line after a spin, and it took a really long time for him to get back. It kind of slowed everything down.
I like the idea of getting back on course and driving slow as to not knock any dirt loose from your car that you picked up on the spin. At the last G-ville race we had to get back on course because the whole back stretch was a swamp.
Which leads to another question. If someone spins in front of you and they get back on course and take it slow, if you start to approach them and you are not flagged, should you come to a complete stop to qualify for a re-run? (Just like the downed cone rule)
Thanks.

Hmm, in no particular order.
If you stop on your own....be prepared to fight for that re-run at "larger" events. At smaller ones, explaining your reasoning to the powers at large should be enough to clear all confusion and you should be good to go.
If you go off-course, do NOT try to save it once your off. Just let it runs its course, and enjoy the ride.
Once you've straightened yourself back out, proceed onto the course. If possible, pull onto a part of the course thats not being used as part of the autocross track and proceed to the end. Remember to trip the lights as you finish. If you must travel along the designated autocross track, do so at a semi-slow pace, keeping enough attention on the car behind you so he doesn't have issues with catching up with you. Skip slaloms and such and if possible, dont drive on "the line", as this is where you'll be leaving whatever debris your car picked up in the off-course excursion.
This is just my nickel's worth of thought on the subject.

Yeah, concerning re-runs...a couple of GIR events ago...I was going thru the first sloalom and noticed there was a worker on the corse holding a cone up ahead. I immediatly slowed down and was searching to see a flag waving. But to no avail...the worker ran off the course as I approached his position (he was about 100 yards ahead of me). So i kept going.
It really threw me off mentally...as I apprpached the next gate I ended up
hitting a cone that wasn't even a easy one to hit. I was too busy trying to figure out why this dude was out there on the track and still looking ahead for flags.
After I finished I expected to be re-ran...but nothing happened, and I didn't want to press the issue. Since the workers had been out there quite some time due to clock failue or something.
I noticed later from my incar cam video the worker in question was holding one of the cones from the cone sloalom I was driving on as he was running off course!!!
He was way too close to my speeding car!!! It didn't occure how close, until I saw the video. I should post a still to show you, but I'm not at home right now.
What do you think I should have done in that instance? Stop? Should I have appealed for another run? Oh well....that was my last run that day too.

I ran into this situation back in Ft. Myers. Basically, in MY opinion, a course worker was too close for comfort, so i came to a stop and proceeded through the rest of the course slowly. Upon return, they told me I wasnt getting a re-run, so I made my way to the timing van to state my case. They understood, and gave me the re-run. I would say thats a pretty rare case. In MOST cases, they expectation is that the course workers have enough common sense to avoid 2500lb bricks flying you at 50mph.....who'd a thought?
At the Petersburg ProSolo, Heyward Wagner got out of his car talking about some course worker who was in the way kinda...
"he better of moved...i was having an awesome run and no way i was stopping."
He's a bit crazy though

80% of people keep running, after you go on dirt.
In my opinion, spining on cource can continue racing, but if you go on dirt you shouldn't come back to the cource. dirt will be cause of spining. just wait for next run.
