All I remember about them from 10-15 years ago is that at that time they were rumored to be very difficult to sanction (by SCCA), and only a few were still grandfathered in at that time. I just checked the current rules online and the 2001 rulebook that I have here and neither mentions anything about a street solo.

They do include the following phrase, however:
"Except on permanent circuits such as kart tracks, the inner and outer limits of turns and corners should be marked by course markers; displacement of which results in time penalties. Corner limits must never be marked by curbs, buildings, poles, trees, soft shoulders or other hazards likely to cause damage to a car or likely to cause a car to overturn."

My old rule book talks about Solo I events and says something about top quality unpaved surfaces being okay for Solo I time trials, but the entire Solo I program has shifted to the Club Racing department and the new Solo rules have even done away with the "Solo I" and "Solo II" designations, with just the former "Solo II" being represented as "Solo".

Of course, Buddha's probably not looking to sanction under SCCA. Most independent clubs use K&K Insurance, and their guidelines are pretty loosely defined for autocross:

I don't know if K&K has separate guidelines for rallycross or what they would think of a "street autocross". I know we once did a track event insured by them and they had some very strict guidelines differentiating a "driver's ed" event from a "racing" event, and the insurance for a race was much steeper. Insurance cost is based on the level of risk involved.

Might be worth a phone call to get with K&K and see what they have to say about what you should look for in a potential site for the kind of event you want to do.

K+K rallycross is loose.. and there are other "off road" insurance companies.. you can cover a rallycross as a mudbog/off road competition... it's cheap.

We need to talk at some point... I'm not letting rally-x die dammit!

The rub (as I see it) is the combination of distances from "fixed, real property", which requires a 75-foot buffer outside a turn, and the speed limit of 70 mph on the straights. Most streets are doing well to be 75 ft wide between the curbs, and without modifications, the straights between corners are too long to keep speeds below 70. One could debate whether a curb is "fixed, real property", but I wouldn't want to be the first to test it!

Yep, I'm with you 100%. For autocross type events, the general expectation is that you can drive at 11/10ths, spin the car and otherwise push your car and yourself as hard as you want with almost no risk of damaging your car. Something as simple as a 3" curb is capable of completely destroying wheels, suspension and subframes... or tossing a car onto its roof.

Whatch'all think of this: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=riverv...41797&t=h&z=18

It's near the same site as the neighborhood I posted above... looks a lot like someone's got their own little track out there already.

Well, a quick search and apparently it is/was a working motocross track complex, but I can't find a name for it. Did find this: Has any one ridden here? - tampabayridindirty.com Tampa Bay's Newest Dirt Riders Connection. Pic from the thread:

New place maybe?

that first place you posted, is down the street from me and has no curbs and plenty of dirt run off but too many kids go drifting there and someone put in a fence and lock. a local business owner did cut the lock a while ago to practice drifting but who knows if they replaced it.

Went by that neighborhood yesterday, but it was locked up. If it has no curbs and plenty of run-off, it sounds like it has potential, even if it's not a sanctioned event. The trick is finding out who currently owns (or is in charge of) the property now. I might have to contact the fence company that installed the gate/fencing and see who paid for it.

Also tried to recon the motocross/mud hole but made a wrong turn and ended up somewhere completely different, if you know what I mean... I was almost rammed by a bull, then I ended up at some stereotypical, caricature-esque, Florida cracker's trailer where I met a nice old guy who told me his life story in 10 minutes, and showed me around his property, and invited me to come use his pole barn and tire changing and balancing machines any time I wanted, and tried to sell me a '72 Alfa Romeo spider (with SPICA) project for a song. I thought I heard banjos there for a second, but he turned out to be awesome (if a bit racist). In any case, from the view I had of the motocross track from across the pond in his yard, I don't think it'd good for cars to run on... too many jumps, etc.

So the search continues... Mayaka maybe...

Hang onto that good ol' boy contact... he sounds like a good resource for info about anything in that area. (and Jeff might want the Alfa!)
