8 Tried and True Tips for a $500 Solo Nationals Budget
This is a guy from Team ATL. He drove a shifter kart at the National Tour and now is going to drive a CP car at Nationals. Just when we thought his brain was rattled he goes off and writes this proving us wrong.
8 Tried and True Tips for a $500 Solo Nationals Budget - By Heyward Wagner
Team Atlanta did a huge grill for the Nationals and it did save a lot of money because when you add money to the kitty, you don't have to include a tip. Though Tommy would have probably enjoyed a couple of dollar stuffed down his shift or other area ...

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

The fact that towing does add a major cost is a good counter point to the article. Patsy Z and I just went up to Atlanta in a Suzuki Swift rental and the cost of fuel for that was $120 total - round trip. So yes, fuel will be the largest impact on the cost. Unless you can find a way to split it even further.
Example: I am going to co-drive the Pebble which costs me $160 (about the price for a pretty prepped car) for the seat and then I can pay for some of the fuel bill (which is optional). If you and Charles co-drive and find two ladies to co-drive in SML then you can use that seat income for fuel/tires.

I liked the ideas...but my problem is timing. September and October are the absolute worst times of the year for me to go anywhere...taking a whole week off isn't even fantasy. Another five years, maybe....
I did the nationals circuit back in '03 and hung out with Heyward and company. It looks like Heyward has elevated his game when it comes to thrift. They always had a grill, a big tent, and a good time.
I am not a big fan of the National Championship, myself. It was much more work than fun.

Not that it will be of help but due to an air show the Nationals will be a week earlier this year, 8/30 - 9/2.
I have a vacation planned for the first week in August, not sure if I'll be able to make it but I am really hoping to.
