TR kart league?
Pretty sure you have to be 16 to race with Chump or LeMons. (that's sure as hell what I'd be telling MY kid, true or not!) Arrive and drive karting definitely seems like a great way to get started.

Funny that I just happen to discover this karting place (Andersen) yesterday. It was listed on Motorsportsreg.com as having an event coming up there. I'm dying to check it out, but my Feb is already full and plan to be at Road Atlanta and Sebring in March. Maybe we can plan an event in April? All day karting sounds excellent, but so does the organized...practice/qual/race format.

Cool!
Thank you smbstyle for posting that link! I had heard about the track, but I didn't know about the karts!
I was looking for a way to get my 12 year old involved in racing. Close to Riverview, only oval was available...
He came to crew for a couple of LeMons/Chumpcar and someone (
) told him that with experience he could race with me at 14! I may still want to wait for him to get a little older...
I really like to be able to rent, I wouldn't want to have to buy a Kart now, and eat my Chumpcar budget!
I'm going this week!

I have emailed to set up a date for that class!
@Loren, it may be 18, 21, 15, or even 40 like me, or never! It will depend on many factors.
What a GREAT birthday present!

Went to Andersen yesterday on the way home from a business trip in Ft. Lauderdale.
What a cool spot!
They were running arrive and drives and some people had brought their karts. I only had time to do one session but I loved it. The karts are plenty fast, very rewarding to drive and not bog, neutral...just what you'd want. The course is challenging and demands you carry speed for a fast lap time. My best laptime was 59.8XX....they said it was pretty good for the first time, but they don't have times posted anywhere online to compare. They said under a minute is good.
I am really interested in going back there when I have more time. I think an all day event might be too much if the temps are warm. 3 sessions run $70...that would be a good start for an event.
SMB...your video shows a good line through there but your early apexing is killing your momentum when you have to lift at/after apex. The guy (Jonny) told me you should be full throttle from the hairpin right all the way to T3. That really demanded you setup for the last turn before the straight all the way back at the hairpin by staying track right on exit. If you get it wrong you just can't get full throttle through the rest of the complex. I like tracks that make you pay for not being spot on 2-3 turns before.
It might also be fun to get an enduro team together.

I love that place; I'm to the point of asking them about an annual membership deal.
I think towards the end of the video you can see me going full throttle through Turn 1 and 2, apexing a bit later. By the end of the day I didnt let off the throttle or touch the brakes from the last 180 horseshoe at the end of the course until right before turn 3.
I can't wait to get back there. I think I'll wear my mesh motorcycle jacket next time. My spine took a beating on the seat and the jacket has a bit of padding.
I didn't mention that I did a complete 360° on entry to T1 on my 2nd lap?! I tapped the brakes and hit that dip and it just snapped. Later I realized that you need no brakes there.

Also, you can see my buddy in both videos pulling on me during every session; he weighs about 40lbs on me which I think doesnt help my cause.
Craig, let me know next time you plan on going down there, we should get a group of people to come down.
