Yes it helped a lot thanks for the advice.

Think I might look into getting a miata or something for the track, cuz with the Z's sucky brakes and A/T not the best for out there :/

Cory,

A Miata is a convertible and you may encounter some issues with running an open top car without a roll-bar. BMW CCA track events for example prohibit convertibles without a rollbar and that you AND your instructor pass a broom stick test. Hate to see you limit your choices in track events with a 'vert, or just plan to add some safety equipment into your budget.

I'd say you're hooked!

Is it time you look at E30/6s?

plenty of miatas run out at the track. Roll hoops are pretty cheap and we know a guy who can make a good custom cage

If you do want an E36, take a look at my blue car in the shop. It was being prepped as a race car, basically an M3 now with a low mileage drivetrain. $5k is what I paid, I was trying to flip it and make money but now I just need it gone. That is pretty much the price you will be for a decent miata and it's a little bit quicker lol

Roll-cage, not just hoops for some groups as well as 5+ point restraints. It just adds up after a while is all I'm saying....then you have a car that isn't very streetable, can't carry 4 tires, etc.

Can you elaborate on your E36? What class were you planning to run in? Did you drop in an S50 or S52? What level of safety prep have you completed? I might be interested.....if Cory isn't.

I didn't build the car, a friend of mine did and was prepping to race when he got sent to north carolina (coast guard). Had to get rid of the car so I picked it up off of him for what I thought was a pretty good deal. S50 and ZF out of a 99 both have roughly 60k miles on them. Paint is a cheap maaco job, and the car has been completely gutted in prep for the cage. that's about it. a few goodies here and there like suspension and bushings.

From a '99, must be a S52 then. So stripped with no seats? Does it run? What suspension? I'm thinking about building for Spec3, so the motor would come out but I'd have to check out the chassis for illegal irreversible mods.

Very interesting though. I'll PM you with any more questions.

Thanks,
Craig
