wow - new to area. Is this common? Registration opens a month early and is filled within 10 days?

for some events yes.

Brooksville has to answer to Homeland Security so their events are pre-register only and the registration closes a week early.

The main Tampa event sites are Brooksville, St Pete Jr College, and the Zephyrhills airport.

Orlando also has a karting center that I have heard good things about.

Specifically for FAST, it happens on occasion, but it's hardly "normal." After we do a Novice school, interest and attendance spikes a bit for the next few events...
