Default One Lap at CFRC

Went to co-drive with my buddy Steve to work on some setup stuff for his car. This run was still when the car was pushing too much. Last session we got it rotating very well and I assume I dropped *at least* half a second because I was getting out of the turns much better without the front end hopping from no grip.

The run is either a 57 flat or a 57.3. My buddy times it by the frames, but with the camera shaking so much it is a little hard to tell. BMW 318ti gutted with suspension, but on street pads and tires this weekend. No motor work besdes a basic chip and exhaust.

Nicely driven! This video should be required viewing for all the folks who show up at that track. I'd say about 90% of the drivers I saw weren't anywhere near driving a proper line most of the time. (and, of course, every one of them blamed their car for their poor performance)

I totally just put two and two together and realized who you are... wowwwww. Hopefully the test went well throughout the day, didn't get a chance to talk after the day started really.

edit: and yes, there was some very poor driving. main reason I went was because I was told it was invite-only for experienced drivers. Oh well, the day went smoothly for me. Main thing I saw that was terrifying was the people still turning as they were heading towards the wall on the last turn (I considered the last turn the one entering the 1/8th mile). Because I was under power I could roll off if I was going too close to the wall, but with the way they were driving they would be beyond screwed if they went 1-2mph faster.

Yeah, I saw the same thing. Overdriving the last turn, but also not tracking out. Leaving 15 feet between them and the wall because they were afraid of the wall... but if they were to push it just a little too hard, or worse yet chicken-lift, they'd spin right into the wall! They could have been much faster to just drive the proper line at 9/10ths than to drive a way-to-tight line at 10/10ths.

The Lemon tested out better than we expected it would. Even on crappy tires, no alignment and stock shocks, the handling was "adequate". The car didn't blow up or fall apart, so all is well!

surprisingly not that many. I was absolutely stunned there were no crashes this weekend with the GBR guys spinnning twice right next to the wall and apparently the tire tracks 3" away from the wall.

YEp , Loren is probably the lists most experienced Lemons driver. He has done 2 events with our Eurotrash team, went up and did the Ohio event last year and now will be running with the GT team in Sept.
Then there is the Lemons and Chumpcar events next year.

Ill have to see what CFRC has to offer for the first 2 weeks in Aug. We need to go out and run our car. Maybe we can get a few of the FL Lemons teams all out there. Taj - Lorren?

We won't be ready for more testing for a few weeks, I think. Major work session this weekend, then the car goes in for a cage next week. I expect the following weekend Philippe will be working on the cosmetics.

Maybe toward the end of the month, or the first week of Sept for us?

OK we may be in Sept also. It depends on the amount of woirk TOm gets done on the car this weekend. Since there is a new-used harness in the car . he kill switch and all the aftermarket guages need to be hooked up again.
RE the cage. Remeber we had a pre bent cage that needed to be trimmed to fit and the ends notched. IT took about 4 days workng 4 to 6 hours to get it installed. THen Tom spent another 2 hours geting tghe seat mounts done.
I think you have farmed out this portion. All I am saying it may be 2 weekends of work. Or a week at a shop.. especially if they are bending all the tubes.

Ill be interested in what the final cost of the cage was. SInce ill need to put one in a car for next year.

Yeah, it'll be a week at the shop getting the cage. You'll have to ask Philippe about the cost. I know it's a lot more than he intended to spend, but the other shop flaked out and we needed it done in a hurry, so it went to a higher end shop I guess.
