How old is the kid?

That's a major factor.

If he's less than driving age, SCCA is the only club that's even remotely "kid-friendly". Nobody else is going to allow him to ride without a driver's license... and usually the BMW and Porsche clubs will only allow their instructors to take passengers.

With the BMW group all we need is a minor release form filled out by a parent.
We have had a few kids out at our events in the past.

However our next one is the BMW Street Survival class in Oct. Its for new Teen drivers. Then Nov is the BMW vs PCA event.

I'm taking my 8 year old daughter to the SCCA event next week.According to their site and forms BOTH parents need to sign (and notarize) the release waiver.

The waiver will get her on site...it won't get her in a car on course. Per SCCA Solo Rules:

13.2.C. A passenger is allowed provided he/she: is no younger than
twelve (12) years old; is in a vehicle which has passed tech inspection;
is wearing a properly fitted seat belt and a properly
fitted helmet; he/she (or parent/guardian, as appropriate) has

completed and signed the required participant waiver(s).

I can sympathize -- my son chomped at the bit until he turned 12 and got a ride. And as Loren said, that's more generous than most clubs. All driven by insurance requirements....

You copied that from the current rulebook? Interesting, I didn't know that.

Edit: Just looked it up for myself. That sucks, but I can understand why they would do that.

Yeah, it's weird in a way. An 8-year-old can COMPETE in a Junior Kart, but can't RIDE in a car. But, it's for the best, I'm sure. I could see tiny little kids in ill-fitting loaner helmets getting tossed all over the front seat.

Of course Mars still hasn't told us how old his nephew is.

Its too bad you cant expose the young ones to racing, you dont get much more of a controlled environment than a auto cross.
Where is the nearest Kart track around here?
