CFR-West SCCA Safety Steward Training
As some of you may know, CFR-West has a shortage of Safety Stewards.
We haven't been without one yet, but in many cases we've only had one SS
at an event, which can be a problem. Without a Safety Steward, an
event must stop, which is not a good thing. So if the lone steward had
to leave for some reason, the event would have to shut down...
I talked to Brian Myers about getting some of us regulars (You know who
you are!) trained up as Safety Stewards so we can avoid this situation
in the future. I've volunteered myself, and hopefully we can get a
couple others involved. There are perks to being a Safety Steward.
Not only do you gain the respect and admiration of your fellow
Solo2'ers, if you're the designated Safety Steward for a heat, counts
as your work assignment. Also, you get a uniform, a badge, and a gun.
Okay, I made the last one up.
I think you do get a hat or a pin or something though...
See Brian or myself at Brooksville if you're interested!

Even other autocross clubs will respect your safety knowledge, as SCCA has the most complete safety program of any autocross organizing body. It's well worth doing.

UPDATE!
We will be holding Safety Steward training at the AUGUST Brooksville event!
Training will consist of a 30-45 minute classroom session during lunch, then you will need to serve as a deputy Safety Steward for two events. After your two deputy sessions you send your form in to the SCCA, and they send you a new membership card that says you're a Safety Steward.
Hopefully we'll get some regulars trained up and have a little better SS coverage next year.
See you guys in August!

Be aware that you will need your own copy of a current rulebook at the safety steward training, we sell them. Also know that I'll be giving out full punch cards worth a free event (coincidentally about the same price as a rule book) to members that go through the training, the two deputy sessions and receive their steward cards from the national office.
Thanks, Jason, for posting this thread.

Now that I am back on course I will try to make this class, I would like to start getting more involved with the SCCA again.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

You must also be a SCCA member, correct?
