That looked scary from the grid. Did you almost hit those people or that hay-bale?

I actully just missed the people since they were standing in front of the haybail and they ran out of the way. I thought I was going to hit them since they stood there for so long like a deer in headlights. I did hit the haybail although really soft. I asked if they were ok and they said yeah so I got the car off the track then checked for damage. Only a few scrapes. I went over later to make sure I didnt damage any chairs and appologize to the people and to my surprise the girl actully got a little off tone with me. So I simply made sure they were ok along with the chairs as I would of paid for anything I wrecked.

Thankfully everyone was okay and no damage done. It would make me feel a little bad if I were in your shoes, but I'd forgive someone for going "off-tone" if I'd almost hit them. I've had to make that apology before, believe me.

In the end hopefully all drama has been avoided. That's the kind of thing that can give otherwise cool people a sore-spot for the sport.

BTW, I'm the kid with the black Si [Matt]. It was cool to see a Merkur at an autox. What was your best time?

The people we almost hit were people working that station, people who were running in the first session (AS, GS,etc..) i think dave got down into a 54.xx but dont hold me to it.. the car could get NO traction.

Yeah I dont have a sore spot for them I just thought I was the bigger person in the first place for appologizing. I could of just said forget it as it is a race track. Yes they were track workers so they should be aware of things like that happening. Regardless it was fun and I'll keep doing it and I hope they do also.

I was working directly across at station 5 and saw the Merkur spin. The workers actually had a lot of time to move, and the XR4 went a little past were they were originally standing. I think "deer in the headlights" is an accurate depiction.

It is pretty clear to me now why many autocross events don't allow you to take chairs out when you work. If they were sitting they could have been in trouble.

Thanks for bringing out the XR4. I liked your modifications.

Thanks. It was a blast! I total agree no chaires should be allowed in the racing area. The pits are fine. I'm shooting to have the Merkur back out in March when CFR comes back. I realy enjoy racing with them, they are a great group!

Anyone know the photographer that was between the 1 and 2 station. I really would like the pics he took of me spinning out. I would be willing to pay a little if need be.
