Default Will 225 width tires fit on a 15x 6.5 wheel?

I will soon be purchasing tires and wheels.

I have pretty much narrow'd my choices down to these two.

The bottom wheel, I can get in 15x 6.5 or 7.

The top only comes in 15x 6.5

Would it bw more advantageous for me to run a 225 width tire as opposed to a 205 width? I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make. It's somewhat of a deciding factor. Thanks.

I've seen 225 50 15 drag radials mounted on 6.5 inch rim.
That's hard call... the 225 is going to give you more of a foot print, but will also be more rotating mass. There is a 3 lb per tire difference between the 225 (23) and 205 (20) toyo ra-1.

I would try the 205's and see how you like them. Here is a page that lists some options. http://www.edgeracing.com/tires/2055015/ The new Azenis looks real tempting.

Yeah, they do look really nice. I'm wondering if I shoudl use them as street/autox tires though, as that's what these tires will be for. I would imagine they only last about 15k miles or so.

I know a few guys in this forum have them (rt 615's) maybe they can chime in.
They will probably a good street tire but will wear fast. 15k will probably be the max.

Easily. VERY easily.

225 on a 5" wheel is pushing it. Anyone competent with an ok tire machine should be able to do 225s on a 6.5" all day long.

Well hmm..I see the new Azenis isn't made in 225/15.

I was looking at those, unless someone can reccommend a good, cheap, street/autox tire?

All of these are in a 205/50/15.

Kumho Ecsta MX - proven
Falken Azenis RT615 - new version of proven Falken Azenis Sport (RT215)
Hankook RS2 Z212 - newcomer but I'm hearing good things it'll be my next tire

I wouldn't expect 15000 miles out of Azenis. I killed a set in about 5000 with lots of autocross runs and aggressive street driving.

FYI Falken makes the Hanabi, a lightweight 15 x 7, and Edgeracing currently has the silver ones for $95 a wheel.

Damn..I can't afford to spend 1200 dollars a year on new tires. Once a year is not bad..I need to get at least 15k miles out of my tires. Are there any tires that qualify for this?

Sure, but not that would be considered competitive ST* class tires. An alternative that worked for me when I ran a Subaru in STS is to put some decent tires on your factory wheels and use them on the street, get another set of wheels with the sticky tire of choice for autocrossing.
