Default POLL: Would you be interested?

Would you be interested in some Track Time in Ocala? DGTrials will be holding another Drift day on April 30th. To fill up the open slots, it has been discussed about allowing some Grip drivers participate as well. After reading the details below, please vote as to whether or not this is something you may be interested in.

Details:
-The event is un-timed, non-competitive.
-This is on a 'nice' go-kart track, and you will get some serious seat time.
-The cost is $90 (PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY....Day of Event is $150)
-You do NOT have to volunteer to work a corner.
-Limited to 40 drivers
-Speed may have to be limited on front straightaway (undetermined) for safety reasons.

To give you an idea, In december, I was able to have 11 runs with 2 laps each for a total of 22 laps. This is a hell of alot more than an SCCA/Miata event.

Please be aware that this IS primarily a Drifting Event (as drifting is NOT allowed @ a SCCA/MIATA/BMW event). We are just looking at other ways to fill some vacant slots.

Let your voice be heard

Charles

To look at the Drifting forum here, you'd think there would be 40 people in the state of FL who'd pony up for a drift event. What's the deal?

Too early to commit to anything, and I think the price is a tad on the expensive side for what it is, but I might be interested.

$90 sounds like a steal to me if the seat time holds true and the fact that I can save myself sunburn by not working the corners

This is only slightly more than what you would pay for 10-15 mins of total combined seat time over the course of 2 typical autox events.

The "grip drivers" would probably like some sort of timing to be in place to measure there improvements. Will rollbars be a requirement? I know we have several convertible owners S2000/Miatas etc that would be interested but not all have a rollbar.

How many "open slots" are we talking about?

Yes, I would require a roll bar on any convertibles as per my insurance.

As far as open slots? I'll get back to you as to how many 'grip' drivers I would allow...timing equip can also be brought down, but since the majority of drivers there won't be using it, its not likely.

Thanks

Let's face reality. 95% of drifters are young (under 22 years old). They have yet to achieve that 'income' level that affords them this luxury on a routine basis. I myself (as well as Jay Levan) am 30. I have more 'disposable' income.

Sounds interesting, but I'd probably pass. The price is not quite low enough to be compelling, especially considering there's no measurement of my performance if I drive a racing line. As for hanging it out, while I do enjoy it, I'm not ready to pay for the opportunity to "go big". It is however good to see that these type of events are being held.

I might be interested, but I also believe that 90.00 is a on the expensive side. (In comparison to SCCA trials and Deep South Cobra Club events at Gainesville).

I presume you guys are looking to cherry pick who you allow to come?

I know that a vast majority of the AutoX/Road Race guys are mature and pretty cool dudes, so anyone of you are welcome to attend.

Unfortunately it IS a bit on the pricey side because well...our insurance is a bit more expensive than your standard Autox or Time Trials insurance because the policy covers Drift as as well as Spectators.

I chose yes, but I won't be able to make that event. I am definately interested in getting some track time at Ocala.
