Default Too much tire, too little power?

It's about that time again, my rear tires are all bald or chunking, and my fronts have started to show belts after last weekend. I was just wondering what the tire size consensus is, if any. For those who don't know my car, it is a 99.8% stock power 240, probably about 135hp to the ground. I'm looking at buying a set of Kumho MXs for my Z wheels and the cheapass inside of me (I own a 240 after all ) says to save $50 and get the 205/55/16, they'll be fine for my power level. Of course, i want to put the 225s on there.

...so the question i pose, would 225/50/16 make much more than a negligeable difference over 205/55/16 for my car (weighs 3000lb at the starting line, with upgraded shocks/springs) for a tire such as the Kumho MX? The followup would be at what point is the tire too wide? It seems like a lot of cars could run wider tires, but don't.

id do 225s...

what WIDTH are the Z wheels? That'll tell you how much width you can run.

z wheels are 7.5
225s fit nicely
....well, some 225s, others seem to rub on the struts.

What size tires do you run on your mr2?

yeah... i know for sure that Brian Davis and a few others have run 245s on S14. Maybe spacers would help give it enough clearance?

245s would work... not ideal, and honestly, i don't know if it'd be worth it for you. 225 MXs would be a very good combo though, IMO.

oh...

my car is ~2550 lbs in full "lightweight" mode, sunroof out, millenia/kosei wheels, Hoosiers, sub out, etc.

205/50 front, 225/45 rear

115whp, 130 rwtq

Ok, thanks for the input
245s would definitely rub without spacers, the 225 goodyear eagle f1s I have on now are like .5mm too wide......if they didn't have any raised text on the sidewalls I would be ok.
