Default Speed GT race today

Just wanna gloat a little about Vipers here. Paul Mumford (remember that name) won the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT today at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in a factory built (but not factory sponsored) Viper Competition Coupe race car.

Full story here...
http://www.world-challenge.com/news/03press235.html

In the previous race at Road America Mumford came from 23rd to finish 3rd. Three other Comp Coupe Vipers were positioned to finish in the top ten until a Vette took them all out with three laps to go.

For those who don't know what a Viper Competition Coupe is you can read about it here... www.vipercompetitioncoupe.com
In summary, it's a Dodge built 540hp racecar. Slated to build 150 total for a cost of less than $150K each - a great deal when you look at the competition it's whooping up on.

On a related note, I'll be at Sebring Saturday Sept 13 if anyone wants to ride along for a few laps. And there will be a Viper Comp Coupe there in the flesh if you would like to see one up close.

I miss the days when the Oreca Vipers dominated the sports car scene.

Yep RR, I miss those days also. But what fun they were while it lasted. Until teams like GM cried about how unfair the 488 V10 was compared to their puny 427 V8 - which BTW they don't offer to their customers. They must not think their loyal sheep can handle all those cubes.

I'm going to Road Atlanta next month to pit one of the Viper teams. Should be fun.

Road Atlanta is a great track. I was there in 2000 for the Petit Le Mans. That is a great track.

Are you going to pit for the 71, Blue Viper?

I really wish i could go to the track event this weekend, but my wife and i just bought another house and it needs a lot of work. I would plan on going to the Dec 13th event, but our baby is due Dec 12th.

Bumping this thread to convey some horrible news. Paul Mumford was killed in a private plane crash yesterday. Paul Mumford was a superstar in the making and very well known in the Viper community. He won every ViperDays event he entered, OTC, and placed 3rd and 1st in the only two SpeedGT races entered this year against the likes of Boris Said and Hans Stuck.

I was so much looking forward to Road Atlanta and joining Paul in the pits and cheering him on. Anyone and everyone interested in motorsports will miss out on watching this classy guy do what he did best.

RIP PMUM
