Default how to wire 4 ohm?

i have 2 rockford 10" p2's

and i just upgraded to jl audio 500/1 and the guy i bought it off of told me to put my positive and negatives together and have one positive and one negative on the amp. well i cant even turn the music up loud at all or my subs start cracking. is four ohm where i dont have my positives and negatives together and each wire has its own port? im hoping this will fix the problem.

speakers are 4 ohm. 250rms max on each sub.

so i figured the 500/1 would push these subs. im going to mess with it tomorro but i dont think my speakers are going to run w/o blowing on this amp. and i really just am not satisfied with the tens. i mean i really want to feel this shit hit. maybe i'll just buy 1 15 thats 500 rms and maybe i'll be good?

Check out Kicker.com and go to the support system. they have wiring diagrams on the site for parallel or series wiring.

Also, the JL Amp is rated at 500 RMS @ 2ohms of resistance, much like Kicker and Rockford amps. So if you wanna get peak performance out of the amp, you need to run the subwoofers in parallel state, or running at 4 ohms you wont get the power or performance you may be looking for. I am assuming the subs are single voice coil as to why the RMS rating is so low. If you need help, I work car stereo sales at Best Buy and I install there too.... the one at the mall. My name is Robert. PM me, I can help.

If they're single coil 4 ohm, then you had it right with the positives together and the negatives together for a 2 ohm load. Your only other option with those subs is 8ohm, which would be senseless. The JL amp is mono, both of the sets of speaker terminals are connected in parallel inside the amp so running both wires to the amp makes no difference.
I'm not incredibly familiar with the P2 subs so I can't speak to their ability, but the amp makes a good amount of nice clean power. What kind of enclosure are the subs in?

So 4 ohm DVC subs. So what I'd suggest is wiring the coils on the subs in series, then parallel the subs together at the amp. This will give you a 4 ohm final load. On that amp it makes very close to equal power between 1.5 and 4 ohms anyhow, but the damping factor and THD is better at 4 ohm.
Being a ported box you may want to check and be sure the box is within spec for those subs. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "cracking" but an improper box will cause many problems.
