if you want it done correctly - that is the best way, gives you a volume knob, cross over and eq, with proper line voltage. With the compression used in ipod software, being able to adjust the sound with the eq is the only way to get great sound!

I've done this in quite a few older/antique cars. Put the HU under the seat or in the trunk, pick up an IR remote eye (couple different company's make them for HU's) and program it to the HU's remote...mount the eye somewhere inconspicuous (sp?) and you're set. Then you'll atleast have a power source, volume control, eq, etc.
