amp overheating?
my amp has built in fans, but when im playing songs with a crapload of base the subs turn off. the amp has a blue power light and then a red light. the red light stays on while the subs are playing. but when they shut off the blue light stays on but the red light shuts off. is there a way to keep the heat down on my amp?

couple things, what ohm load is your amp seeing?
how good is the power & ground suppies to the amp.
is the box the subs are in designed correctly for them?
and the gain control on an amp is not a volume knob, you could be clipping the amp on input!

Your manual should tell you exactly what the different lights mean. You did rewire the subs to 2ohm stereo like we discussed in the other thread right? The heat isn't the problem, it's a symptom of another problem. Wired correctly and tuned right an amp will never thermal unless some outside sources of heat (IE sunlight) are very intense right on the amp.

right now my speakers are at 4 ohm. when i tried to wire it to 2 ohm i blew the fuse on the amp. i beleive it blew because it just wasnt getting enough power. im going to try and upgrade the big 3 and see if that helps. i have a feeling i'll be upgrading to a jl w7 here soon. is there some special battery i can get along with the big 3 upgrade that will allow me to run this in my ford ranger w/o having to get an aftermarket alternator?
perhaps i should have set everything on the back all the way up. will set everything aside from the bass just over the middle and see how that works. i'll do that and upgrade the big 3 and report back to you guys! maybe once my alternator wires are upgraded to a 2 gauge i'll be able to run 2 ohm! i was on my way home from work today and as the base hit my battery needle would jump up and down!!

No amount of replacing wires is going to fix an underpowered system. You may be able to upgrade the ability of that current to flow, thus helping a bit, but in the end if the alternator is underpowered for the task that's it. But if i remember right the amp was 500 watts right? I doubt the amp is shutting down because of that. What do you mean "setting everything on the back all the way up"?

The "knobbies"?
Oh God, please don't tell me you maxed out the gains, bass boost, and the filters..... Your bass must sound like complete ass if you did that.
Turn it down and stop trying to be ghetto. Enjoy nice sound that feels and sounds clean with the music, not "boom-boom" garbage loud.
