Wiring issue: no power to stereo when lights turned on
Wiring issue: no power to stereo when lights turned on
Just picked up a car with an aftermarket stereo recently installed. Works great, however when you turn the lights on, the thing quits working.
Anyone got any ideas of where to start?

Most likely, aftermarket stereo was hard wired and incorrectly to the factory harness. Many illumination wires on the car side show a ground until the lights are turned on. So people mistakenly hook up the aftermarket's ground wire here. They tested it when the headlamps were off and just figured it was the ground wire. Remove stereo and tell us what wire in the factory harness that the stereos' black ground and orange illumination wire are hooked to. List year make and model vehicle and we'll tell you what is wired wrong...
