nice looking box but it would look even better tucked back in there so you still have a trunk

i was just about to ask for pics of it. it sounds a lot like my old set up, I'll have to do the same for pics (which hard drive not shop though)

 

You know, I was just thinking about this plexi box in the picture and the comments about how it was nice but seemed out of place. Now I remember-I think either MTX or their Thunderform affiliate used to make these boxes in bulk a few years ago (just like the custom carpeted boxes from China now and Metra's custom fiberglass boxes also). They discontinued them somewhere in 2006 it seems but I remember doing a couple of installs for Crutchfield (under their Installernet program which we are still affiliated with) where people were coming in with these boxes to have them installed. This was when the baskets and magnets of many speakers were still very unattractive and alot of people complained that they looked ugly once installed (not to mention the cheap a$$ speaker wire Crutchfield included).

We hooked up with a local painter and started getting the baskets custom painted for like $75 to match the factory vehicle finish. It was a hot seller for a little while but seemed to fizzle out fast. I forwarded this link to one of my old installers and he agreed that this looks identical to many of the cookie cutter pre-fab installs we were doing back then. Popular in SUV's mainly I remember (boxes didn't look so out of place in them). Also, (same as now), it was becoming cheaper to buy the boxes premade than to custom make them. I guess the trend moved on though and I don't think I know of any of my distributors who even offer them anymore...

 

plexiglass is so 90s. stock, clean and functional is where its at not.

 

I agree with everyone here. A complete plexi box just looks out of place, plus personally, I think boxes should conform to the location they are going as to blend in with the curves of the space. That box looks just thrown in there.
