Default Opinions/Experiences with smaller subs?

Hey guys

Been thinking of going with some small subs in the truck. Im getting old and dont need/want the booming big bass anymore but want something more than stock, clean and tight.

Im looking at subs 8 inch and smaller. I know that RE and eD both make good 8 and 6 inch subs. Ive heard that Digital Designs makes a good 8, and Ive been looking at the Cerwin Vega HED-8. Ive been looking around at videos on youtube and such, and really leaning toward the CV HED-8. They are hella cheap ($65 for 2) and they seem to get down pretty well. But I know CV quality has gone to crap the past few years, unless you stay in the very top of their line.

Anyone have any experiences with small subs? Any help in appreciated...

Chris

well i run 2 10s... and i love em...i was thinking about doing 8s though....i think its gonna sound good but if your looking to get deeper notes outta them u need more than 1 8 or a larger speaker size.....2 8s will prolly sound great and still give you a little of that kick that your looking for.....ive seen the DD subs in real life and they look like they get down and i know alot of people swear by them i havent heard them though...RE subs dont sound bad and put out alot of bass for there size....i would go with the RE's if it was me but its up to you..

in the old f150 4 door i had 2 jl 8's with a 500/1 under the back seat. i got plenty of bass out of them, friends though i had much bigger subs in the truck than where there, you get the idea.

i jbl also makes a nice small 8 i heard a set of those in a buddies truck before i got the jl's

I forgot about the JL 8's, I'll have to look them up, Thanks.

Im not sure where Im going with placement, but probably wont be kickpanels, lol. Im thinking of getting kicks for the components though. The Blazer has 6 1/2's in the door and 4's in the dash so I might go 3 way....

I like the Cerwin Vega's and they say they play down to 20hz.... I think Im going to pick them up just because they are $65. At that price, if they are really bad I can always buy something else.

Unless you are putting in like 6 of them, you are better off buying a quality pair of midrange speakers and sealing the baffles.

the jls can take some power and pound pretty hard but they arn't cheap, i had the w3's. i'm thinking of doing them in the new truck when i pick it up, made everything so clear and i still had room under the seat to put some random little things

I've done the JL 6's and 8's in both w0 and w3's in smaller vehicles such as miatas, porsches, mr2's and trucks with little cab room and if done right you can easily get them sounding great. Did 4 of the 6's in a F150 and you'd swear they were a couple of 10's if not 12's. No need for big subs for big bass...it's just easier that way.
