Got an email and phone call from a guy yesterday. His shop is called Everything Electronic Repair, in Land o lakes. Basically, he says he can fix almost anything, and charges a flat rate of $25 + parts...those are his words. To me, that means $25 total labor charge, but he could mean per hour.

Anyway, I know nothing more about this guy, but I see posts in here all the time looking for someone to fix amps, etc. Might be worth a try.

Don't come bitching to me if it doesn't work out...I'm just passing this along.

auto audio does it and it is a hell of a lot closer too.

 

However, they don't know stuff enough. The initial cause of damage (to my amp) was water which fried 2 mosfet chips and fried a resistor. (Dalt / TJ will remember me bitching and whining about how much I wanted it fixed) Well they replaced ALL the power supply mosfet chips, and even a resistor, but still couldn't get it to working. They said they would need to replace more parts and didn't want to charge $200 to repair the amp. So they returned it to me after I paid a $20 bench fee (which was very fair since they didn't take out the mosfet chips they installed)

Well, I have a friend in Ohio who's been repairing amps for about 10-15 years now and sent it up to him. Within 3 days of on & off testing, he discovered that they replaced the correct bad resistor, but did not put the correct one back in. He ordered the part. $0.67 plus shipping (which was $6 or something) Installed it, tested the amp and has been working ever since.

Granted, I paid him $90 for labor for his time, but $100+$10shipping to him is better than $300 for a new amp. Especially since my specific amp isn't made anymore.

If you do take your amps to auto audio, make sure it's not an alpine as I don't think they have experience with the MRV/MRD series and beyond.

TJ, thanks for the heads up on the other guy. He might be a great resource for this part of the forum.

 

just an update on this i called auto audio today and they said they don't do repairs anymore.

I did however find a place called plaza electronics on ulmerton inbetween belcher and starkey behind the citgo gas station that repairs all electronics.

 

Everything Electronic Repair doesnt repair car amplifiers anymore.
