Exclamation Help!!

hey man my boy has a 1999 buick lesabre and i came across 2 10' boss rippers in a box so i hooked him up... and he went and bought a jensen 760watt 4 channel amp... ...well he had his boy install it and now the subs keep going on and off... so i looked at it... and his boy wired the amp str8 to the alternator... and the way hey connted the wires to the amp...is without end just frayed copper shoing and it looks like the ground is touching the power .... anyways my question is wat could cause the subs to go on and off?? can he use the 4 channel amp?? is it supposed to be connected to the alternator instead of battery?? should he get the wire ends put on and re connect his wires?? also now his service engine light came on.. a

well any insight on this would help...

i'd re run the power and connect it to the battery to supply a most constant power supply to the amp. make sure it is fused with an inline fuse as close to the battery as possible so if the ground and power lead to touch it will blow the fuse and not cause any major problems
here is a diagram of how to install an amp

and a website with a little more info to help you out
