over a 600 watt one....we had a guy in circuitcity the otherday and he wanted to hook one up....a 600w one didnt work but i would think an 800w one would do it...and as far as i know the converter is the only way to do it because the voltage comming out of the car is DC and the PS3 runs off AC....so eather way it needs to be converted some way...the easiest way to do it would just do the power inverter...

just my 2 cents

If you are electronically inclined, a step up 18v dc-dc transformer could be wired to bypass the power supply for the ps3. Other than that, 450wrms inverter.

I agree. Power invertor is a must (without getting too technical). Here we basically use only one inverter and it has been capable of running all game consoles (among other things) over the years, and they are rated at 500 watts. I must add however, stick with a good quality unit and not the flea market or "cheapest on eBay" specials. Power coming out of those cheapies is horribley unreliable and we have even diagnosed a few to be causing the game consoles to lock up or generate disk reading errors...

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

Have to agree w/ P057. Really bad idea mounting the invertor in the glove box. Some put out so much heat, we mount them to a piece of MDF instead of straight to the floor. Under seat is the best place to hide away and still get good airflow. We never put them under the carpet, or inside a console (some installers do, but I am always worried about that excessive heat build up).

The way he made it sound (his sentence formations SUCK) was that he was putting his PS3 and the inverter in the glove box (he said "glove back", but I just have to assume... ).

This would be an EXTREMELY bad idea if he was to put the entire system in there since the ps3 would overheat probably within a few minutes and the inverter might ruin the casing of the ps3 slightly to moderately if it got hot enough.

I (have to) agree with MCOR too , put each item under a seat or get the PS3 mounted on the back of the rear seat drop-down armrest if you have one. Putting those things anywhere gets to be a little tricky, which is kind of why i like having an old ass beater. Don't care what i do to it! Right now i just need to figure out a way to yank out my dead airbag in the passenger side... I can then throw my useless gamecube thing in there; I never use it at all in the house and I can't sell it for anything except for in-store credit when i don't even buy games anymore...

[quote=P057;4260669]sounds like you almost didn't want to

You read into that one too deep !

On a lighter note, never waste a good airbag oppurtunity: Gut the inside and carve your gamecube into it or something along those lines. It sounds stupid, but there are quite a few people out there who pay a few bucks for dead airbags just to modify them with car A/V equipment. If done right, you can actually make an old gamecube quite the conversation piece. I would maybe set the airbag off safely first before installing the gamecube, or that will be a whole other conversation piece.....
