John: HA. yeah... i'm kidding... ;p or am i?

93ex: That sort of crap never goes over well with me. i will probably end up stuck with two alts =[

gradeA: you're an illiterate dumbass, what the fuck was that comment supposed to mean?

Meade: I think its just very slowly dying, its weird. I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the tip.

dalton: I don't think that it'll affect it at all, it'll just be much more efficient.

Maintaining a higher voltage for your amps means the amps can put out more watts. So generally, yes....it should be somewhat louder with a higher ouptut alternator.

Be sure to upgrade your wiring (alt. to batt. and factory grounds) when you swap the alternator as well. Go with at least 4 gauge. I wouldn't be surprised if you heard a difference.

Talking

upgraded the ground on the alt (i thought we already did it but instead we actually did the battery instead, oops) and dalton tapped the alternator like meade916 suggested. Brought my voltages from --

OFF - 11.2 volts
ON - 12.1 v

to

OFF - 12 v
ON - 14.65 v

big difference huh?

thanks for the suggestions.

alternator is still out the door =[, but i'm still ordering the new one on monday. Hope this thing lasts till it gets here sometime this week!

... tapping on it doesnt raise the "off" voltage. it was at 12.0 with the car off before and after, that means the battery was at a very low charge to begin with. we put in new grounds from the alt to chasis and alt to battery but we havent got a battery to chasis yet - but the 4ga to chasis from the alt should be sufficient with the rear battery.

haha i did when we fixed the alternator the first time, when i noticed it was dying it was also the time we found out the voltage dropped horrendously.

When we fixed it first time it was at a decent 13-14 volts.

BIG notice in wattage and power change
