This kid at school claims this is his setup... Numbers don't add up unless I'm smoking crack he's full of BS.

In his trunk he has 3 Kicker CompVR (12'' 400 peak power)
I've seen those so I know he has them.
claims
-to be running 330 RMS(RMS is 50-150) to each one with a capacitor wired to his AMP
- also believes his system puts out 160dbs of sound when it hits
according to my reasearch 140+ dbs does major permanent damage to your hearing if you are exposed without ear protection
- also that it is louder than my brother's Solobaric L5


I would like your opinion on the matter.
I intalled a Kicker Solobaric L5 in my brothers 96 Explorer. It is running off a Kenwood amp at 550rms 1100 peak.

I'm seriously thinking the kid is dumb...

Oh yea his setup is in a newer Altima and he still has a backseat.

How accurate are the cheap $20 Scosche meters. I'll get one jsut to shut him up.

 

depends on where he is claiming the numbers from - it might be 160db in front of hte subs in the trunk. But in the passenger compartment I wouldnt count on it from sealed enclosures.

 

what he says isnt THAT farfetched, maybe the 160 dbs part.

btw those scoche meters are complete garbage, dalton and i tapped on it and we got 130 db. =S he yelled and it was 135 or soemthing. it was rediculous, i think the max reading is like 140 too, so no matter what, unless you got a downright shit system, you'll be owning the hell out of tha meter.

 

A single solobaric is not going to be luder than three 12" woofers.

Three 12" woofers are not going to meter 160 unless they are tuned to one frequency.

Peak 160 maybe.

And there's no way in hell 3 compvr's are hitting 160, or even 150. 3 solobaric L7's wouldn't even come close to the number. Just laugh at him, or make a couple bucks and bet him.
