The chime sounds through and sometimes BCM initializes through the radio harness - its a coin toss as to whether the BCM will run without the bypass harness. Only way to tell is to unplug the radio and try to start the car. If it throws a code or your windows/wipers/etc stop working then you need the bypass harness. If they still work you can probably get the standard 20$ harness and just not have door chime.

You do need to buy the kit and it is 30$

If you have the little LCD screen it will no longer work without the oem radio.

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.

aww its a 20 minute job when you get used to it. Like I said, disconnect the radio and drive around for a bit. if everyone works good and you dont get any codes then you are good to go.

If its a class 2 data bus system you need a GMRC01 or equivalent unit. We sell them for $70. If its their new Lan system which I dont think it is there is no adaptor yet.

Yea, the pain of GM cars. Most cars after 2001 have had issue with this. (Dalton excluded) The real horror is that in some GM cars, the AIR BAGS are run thru the factory radio and if you want to replace the factory radio, you need to relocate it due to if your car got into a accident, the airbags would not release if the radio was not in the car.

Scosche has a kit for the cobalt and it includes the wire harness (kinda like the kit for a 97-99 Taurus/Sable, has everything in one bag). You get a little display under the radio for all your computer readouts. Unfourtunetly (sp?) its 199.99 here at BB and its a special order.

Scosche part #: GM1593B

Works with:
Chevrolet
2004-UP Malibu
2004-UP Malibu Maxx
2005-UP Cobalt
Pontiac
2005-UP G6
