Default what speakers to get

Ok i need your guys help. My girlfreinds car a 2000 Chevy impala needs a new drivers side front door speaker. I believe the car is equiped with a Bose stereo system. I checked through the dealer for a speaker and they are $60 each.So now i've come to somewhat of a predicament. Should i buy the 1 $60 speaker or get a pair of some other brand speaker? I've herd that changing the speakers on a Bose system can mess up the quality of the sound. Also this is with a stock headunit. Any help would greatly be appricaited. Thanks

Ugh...the almighty Bose. If you change the front speakers and keep the rear....it'll be all fucked up. Bose speakers run off their own amp at their own ohms. Only thing to do is to buy a new speaker or get all new speakers.

Like was said, the Bose system plays at funky ohm loads.....but aftermarket speakers will work. They definetly won't sound "as good" as if they were playing off a good aftermarket deck, perhaps with an aftermarket amp as well....but they'll get by. It's a hard call, if it were my personal vehicle, I'd throw the aftermarket speakers in....because in my opinion, any aftermarket is better than the Bose.

Do you plan on upgrading any of the system any further in the future??

Well shit, then why are you even asking? Get the Bose replacement from the stealership and call it a day in that case.

Umm I have heard several after market speakers running off amps that couldn't compete with my boys Bose 4.0 in his Seville. And I'm sure the the new 16-speaker Bose set-up will take a lot more set-ups than that.

oops yea what i meant was she wants it to be just as good as the stock system. What i wanted to know was if there was a speaker that was cheaper than the OEM one that was just as good. So from what your saying if i screw with it the quailty will go to shit?

ANY aftermarket speaker (short of pyle or some other 2 cent brand) will perform better than the Bose oem system IF matched with a comperable aftermarket headunit.

there is another option but it would require moderately advanced knowledge of car audio. You can purchase an aftermarket amplifier and wire it into the Bose Line outputs effectively bypassing the stock amplifier. For that however you would need new speakers all the way around but you could keep the stock headunit.
