Hmm..doesn't look like it. Well I am definitely getting discouraged. I was planning on getting a single 12 down there. Now does anyone have any other suggestions? I want ALOT of output. I had a single 12" CVR in a ported box (I think I bought it from one of you guys) and it was decent, but not loud enough for me. I want to feel the bass and make my vision blurry if you know what I mean. So I am up for suggestions. 2 8" L7s won't do the job will they?

 

Really big sound and really small space unfortunately just don't mix. Woofer and enclosure design have come a long way, but physics is still physics. Enclosure size is still a very important variable for spl, especially in ported boxes. So, if you're last ported 12 wasn't enough, and you don't have as much space, it really won't be enough.

Based on what you want, I don't see you being happy with 2 8's in a small box.

You're either going to have to re-evaluate the sound you want, re-evaluate the space you are willing to give up, or re-evaluate the level of mods you're willing to do to your truck.

First thing I'd do is get a reference point. Find someone elses system that sounds like what you want, and find out exactly what he or she has...exact model subs, exact enclosure size, exact amps. We can't work with the standard...'this guy had 2 Orion 12's in a ported box on a DEI amp, and it pounded'.

I'm sure you're probably looking for an answer sooner, but the next TR audio meet is June 10, at my shop. Last time, we had several different sub combos: 16 6 1/2's in a sealed box, a single 12 in a medium ported box on moderate power, 2 12's in a smallish ported box on fairly small power, 2 12's in a big ported box, on big power, 2 15's in a really big ported box on big power, 5 12's in a big ported box, on big power, and a single 12 in an infinate baffle, on fairly low power. I also have a computerized subwoofer modeling program. We can throw a bunch of different ideas into it, and see what comes out. If nothing else, you'll have lots of different folks to brainstorm ideas.

Thanks alot for the input. Well my last box was I believe 1.75 cubes, and I believe with fiberglass I should be able to get over 2 cubes. My plan right now is to skip the L7 and go with a round design, possibly the Pioneer 3000spl (I hve read pretty good things about them in smaller enclosures). its a cheap sub and if I don't like it, I can at least change it out without having to have another box made.

 

We usually do JL W1's for truck boxes. Theyre very efficient, shallow mount, and are very clean

 

I understand that, but I am not looking for clean (SQ). I want loud. I have a pair of W1s in my closet if I wanted clean. Or actually theres tons of clean subs I could put in a smaller sealed enclosure for tight bass. But I want output for this setup.

 

Like Toby said, unfortunatley you can't defy the laws of physics. Extreme bass requires extreme amounts of cone area and/or air space....and space is limited in a standard truck application. Then again, it's impossible for any of us to guess what you view as a "loud" system. In the end, I think it will all boil down to just how much you want to spend and tear your truck up.

 

cleaness and space can be done, output and space are mutually exclusive. With that kinda of space you will need to do some serious research, get T/S specs, calculate the exact air space you have and find the best motor specs per that space using some software such as WinISD which is free.

 

Well like I said, I'm going with the 3000spl and hope to get close to 2 cubes. It actually asks for 1.75cu ft max ported, so I should be fine. I have the speakers for my highs, just need to order my amps and sub and I'll give you a call about coming out to see my truck. Thanks.
