Mmats is the real deal. They are designed, engineered, and for the most part, built right here in Florida. They cover everything from SPL to SQ. Their amps are very solid, as well. If I didn't have Crossfire, I'd pick up Mmats in a heart beat.

I don't know as much about MA, but it seems like a 'boomer brand'...pretty inexpensive, big power ratings (if you believe them, which I don't), and they get reasonably loud. I wouldn't have them, though. Even if I just wanted cheap and loud...there are better brands out there.

Coal is most likely Kole. Another distributor brand. Cheap and most likely overrated.

Will Kole and MA boom / hit hard / get loud? Sure, almost any sub will if you put it in the right box and power it right. Other brands are just more likely to hit harder, sound better, and last longer. But, if you don't have a big budget, and loud is your goal, you're more likely to get there with MA over Alpine, Rockford, Kicker, Crossfire, etc.

I've been seriously contemplating doing a vehicle completely with one of the lesser known brands like O2 or Hollywood. I know I can make it slam, but I'm also betting I could surprise a lot of people with the sound quality, as well.

I would never run Memphis personally. But, if it meets or exceeds your expectations, go for it.

One company I will never recommend is Power Acoustics. I have ha threee of thier amps literally catch on fire on me. I don't care how cheap they are.

If your thinking of doing a system with unknown equipment, take a look at these subs. I will be testing a pair as soon as they are made available. The company name is Fi. Here is a link to some information about the new company.... http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=158343
