Default ipod+head unit

hey guys, i'm pretty new to this car audio stuff, although i've helped some friends install some stuff.

i plan on buying a new head unit for my 98 saturn sl2 soon, and get some niec new speakers to go along with it. the problem is, i've noticed that i've been using cds a lot less now that i have a iTrip with my ipod mini. i went to BB yesterday, and saw some nice head units i like, and this one stuck out to me the most. the BB audio guy told me the integration with the iPod isn't that great, so i looked at some others. i've also heard that i should buy the "premier" versions of pioneer also. i tried a cool alpine one that had a slider bar, but it didn't seem sensitive enough to me, and was like....$400 before the iPod adapter.

any other suggestions for head units?

-thanks

i would think the easiest way to do it is to find a head unit with an aux input and hook it up to ur ipod

yeah, but i kinda like the thought of being able to control the iPod from the head unit, and having the titles scroll across.

the alpine ipod control is cool, it gives you all the searches and folder options, chargers your ipod and can just leave your ipod in the glove box , any of the alpine with ai net will control the ipod unit

Alpine and Kenwood both have addon boxes than will allow Ipod control from the headunit, they also charge the IPOD and allow track changes through the Headunit remote control. I have the MP-4028 and it doesnt have native Ipod interface but the interface works flawlessly.

See Jay at AVE for a good deal on the interfaces, tell him Dalton sent you so I get better delas when I go there too

Pioneer offers an ipod interface as well. And stay away from the Alpine deck with the sliding gimmick...not only is it difficult to operate, it also has alot of problems.

thanks for the replies guys....i'm kinda leaning towards a pioneer or kenwood head unit, but i hear the pioneer iPod interface sucks.

AVE is a private shop that sells alpine, kenwood, diamond, and fosgate equipment. Its located on highway 19 just north of countryside mall in palm harbor. Look the the beepers and more next door. If you in tampa its prolly better to head to a diff shop but I prefer to make hte drive to AVE cuz jay doesnt bullshit with you.

I happen to like the 9855 with Glidetouch and I havent seen any problems with it. It also vibrates in different rythms as you move over the buttons so you dont have to look to know where you are on the pad. It sure as hell beats hte gay beeps most decks have.
