Default Amp too weak?

Hey guys I'm new to the "sound system" world. Don't really know that much about audio systems. The 250 Watt amp that powers my two 10" subs keeps turning off if I crank up the volume with a lot of bass. Is it because the Amps only a 250 Watt amp? I have to turn the car off, then back on to get it working again, but If I put out a buncha loud bass it'll do it right over again. So should I get a bigger amp or what? Thanks for the help.

i had mine do that too. its overheating from too much of a load I believe. What gauge is your power and ground wires? Also double check all of your wires to make sure your not shorting any of them. Just turn the bass down yeah right or get a bigger one. Im just guessin here since its been a while since mine has done it and too much beer keeps me from remembering the solution but someone else will chime in.

I believe it's 8 gauge (about a little bit wider than 1/4" thick) for the main power wire to the amp. That wire is fused at 25 amps. The "Amp hookup" kit it came in said it was good for up to 400 watts... err.... 400 something. Like I said, not good with audio systems.

your gain is probably set too high for the headunit. you cant use the amp gain as a volume control, turning it beyond the tuning point for your amp will only result in clipping & lots of heat.

turn thos gains down. my amp turns off if it reaches a certain temp. to prevent it from overheating. i put a couple computer fans to blow air across the heat sinks because its in a tight space. works great amp stays nice n cool.

1. Make sure your sub is wired no lower than what your amp is stable to.

2. Turn your gains (and any variant of a bass boost if your amps has one) down a bit.

3. Make sure you have atleast 8 guage power and ground wires.

4. Get a larger amp which doesn't require you to turn it up as high to get as loud as you want.

turn the deck to 3/4 power then turn the amp up till you hear clipping, turn it down just below the clipping - thats the easy way.

hard way is go get a multimeter, a test tone, and use ohmslaw to find the point your amp is at 90% of its rated power output.
