First step: Budget.

You say you dont have 3000 but are you willing to spend 1000? 2000?

Head unit: What features are you looking for? MP3? bare bones? multi color dipslay? sattelite radio? lots of bells and whitlses? Nothing too complicated but not a phongraph?

Brands I reccomend: Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood excelon, pioneer, eclipse, nakamichi... Some will have more features than others, but its all about what youre willing to spend... but expect to spend ~300 here.

Door speakers: This is where I would say to go to Local audio shops, such as, sound advice, sensuous sounds, audio itch, tropical audio, or divine sounds. And see what you LIKE. Bring a cd of music that YOU like, and get it on wattage close to what you decide to go with. I can reccomend you a billion different brands, but its up to your ears. But I would reccomend component speakers over coaxial, but it again is your budget.

Dont waste time with rears. Nuff said. Use the $ for the rears to get better fronts, or amp or head unit or sound deadening.

Amplification: Are you going to do just a dedicated amp for your sub(s) or a amp for your door speakers and your sub? or just get a big 4 channel and run everythign off that? Its all about your budget, and what you decide for a sub.

SUB(s): Theres a plethora of brands out there. Treat it like like the door speakers, and go listen. A lot of people on here have subs from companies you've probably never heard of, and are amazing subs. (derek, racingtheburg, afboy) and Im sure would let you get a listen. But it comes down to your budget here too.

The rest is wiring and sound deadening, but thats somewhat dependant on what your budget is as well! See how important the budget plays in everything?

well budget is a concer.I just got a new job and i seem to have some spending money lately. As for amps i was just going to run a dedicated amp for the subs alone,But i have little experience with this audio stuff.I really was only planning on getting the stuff installed at a audio shop.I do not want to walk in and they try to sell me unnecessary stuff. As for head units i would like some color to it but as for bells and whistles, not a big priority .I just want something capable of withstanding alot of people.Hope that helps
thanks

I'd have someone on here do the install before I took it to a shop. Thats is unless you have alot of money to spend. Personally I install everything myself and save alot.

For a headunit I'd go Pioneer (my favorite), Alpine, or Eclipse.

Jesse said all that needs to be said about highs/mids but some names to look for are Focal, CDT, OZ vectors, RE, Rainbow.

As for bass there are a ton of choices. Are you going for deep pounding bass or more for a tight, great sounding bass note?
