Default Car audio

I had two tens and a 400 watt amp in my car

One day my car wouldnt start... to make a long story short one of my battery cables had melted, the one that the power was attached and it broke the connection

Now.. could my system be to blame for this and if so what size wire should I get?

Did it melt because it was against something hot in the engine bay or what?

The only way your system could cause your car not to start (assuming it wasn't ghetto rigged in some odd way, ie through a fuse box or no fuse) is if your amp is pulling more current than your factory alternator/battery wiring can handle. And I seriously doubt this would happen with a 400w amp unless Ford uses 16 gauge power wire. And usually, if a wire melts because of excess current, a large portion of the wire is damaged...rather than just a small section as if it were to come in contact with something hot in the engine bay. If it is because of excess current, you better be lucky your entire car didn't catch fire.

so the ground couldve caused it to do that? because there wasnt anything getting too hot in the engine itself

Which wire melted? The power wire for your amp? Did you have a fuse on it?
