Default kicker comp vr question

Hey guys, I currently have 2 kicker comp vr 12's in my car in a ported box. It plays a good low note and sounds real nice. One of my friends was telling me that these subs sound so much better and louder in a sealed box instead of a ported box, i just won't have such a deep low note. Does anyone else have these subs and what do they recommend? Thanks

Chances are it will probably sound better is a properly built sealed box. Why? Cuz the ported box rite now your probably running was prefabbed and not built to the kicker specs. If you build a ported box to kicker specs, it will sound jus as good as a sealed box and maybe even go lower than ur ported box u have now.

The ported box i have now is not prefabbed, I built it and it is within the recommended kicker specs. What i was asking/saying earlier is that I heard from a friend that these subs sound better in a sealed box and I was wondering if anyone had them or knows of this? They sound fine right now in my ported box but i was j/w how it would sound sealed... wondering if it would be worth changing boxes and everything. Thanks

IMO, you're better off ported with that particular sub. How "low" a sub goes depends alot on port design. With a sealed box, not as much air will be moving, which means shorter wave lengths, which means tighter more accurate bass. I wouldn't be concerned too much on what your friends say...there's so many varibales that are probably contributing to what they consider "better" (ie, vehicle, box, amp, hu, etc.).

id just leave what u got, if your happy with the sound its not worth all the time you would put into building a new box..unless ur really bored

go wit this rule

Sealed- SQ: tighter hitting bass.

Ported- SPL: better lower end, not as tight
