jl audio stuff
Just got a jl audio 13w7 sub and 1000/1 amp for graduation.
I have never had a system before and was wondering if you could post some info about other stuff I may need and problems I may run into with this equipment. I know a little bit but after reading some of these threads I wouldn't try to talk crap in here, help if you can. I don't feel like going to a dealer and getting shafted.
My car is a 2003 Si if that helps and pure stock.
And what the hell does a capacitor do?

Sounds like a really nice combo you got there. What was your question? Specs on the equipment or info. on how to install it all? You say your car is stock, the next step I would take is looking into an aftermarket head unit to properly process and tune your music. You'll lose alot of sound quality and flexibilty trying to run through a stock head unit.
And a capacitor is an electrical component that is installed between your battery and amp, short bursts of power are stored and theoretcially helps reduce voltage drops to your amplifier, which in turn keeps your amp playing at full potential. Although the effectiveness is controversial, it couldn't hurt.

Yay a new jl audio man. Jump on the band wagon. How much did you pay for it all? :-p jp nice first system. My first was an 8" Swiss audio and 150 watt lightning audio
As for what u need now, Id go for after market HU, and maybe a battery upgrade. I bet that stock civic battery isnt going to like the stress that amp will put on it. Might also want to look into getting some new high speakers and maybe an amp for those cuz it looks like the bass/rattle is going to drown out the highs. Also look into some sound deadner cuz ur civic is going to do a lot of rattling and vibrating. Ull see what I mean the sub hits and ur trunk rattles like two midgets wrestling in the back

My parents asked me what I wanted for graduation and I said a sound system, when they asked what kind I showed them. I can't believe they bought them, I assume they payed 1300-1500 for both (looking at retail on some websites). And it will be a sweet system, my brother has three of the w6v2 ( I think 10's) and they hit hard and sound great, the sound impressed me.
He had his friend install the stuff and he lives in New York so that is too far from Tampa IMO to drive to get my stuff installed.
I was planning on a new HU anyhow. After reading on here about needing new/more batteries for your ride so it can handle the wattage I got scared and figured I needed to ask.
Does that sound mat take away from the sound quality or just slow/stop car rattling?
If I do a battery upgrade, what other upgrades will be needed, will that screw up my car's electrical system for any reason if that is even possible?

I wouldn't worry too much about the battery/electrical situation yet. See how everything works out first and if you do happen to see a problem, invest into a larger alternator. What are you looking to have installed? Do you need a box built or do you just need the wiring hooked up? And sound deading doesn't take away from SQ, it actually improves it. By making whatever it is applied to denser, you reduce road noise and keep the music inside. Unfortunatley, with what you have, rattling will probably always be an issue. Don't stress too much over it.

I do need it installed and I was planning on looking for an enclosure in the store sometime this week... although 13' boxes seem to be a little difficult to find. I may try and build one but it will probably turn out Homer Simpson style if I do.
Going to try best buy for a box because I have a $200 gift certificate from x-mas left over.
