Kicker L7
Kicker L7
I m putting a Kicker 12L7 ran by a kx1200.1 in my girls car tommorow or Thursday. Anyone have the L7? Are you running a ported or sealed box in what kinda car. She has an rsx so its gonna be loud either way so i will prolly go with a sealed for sql. I will post pics by the end of the week, but i would like to have some feedback from some people with a similar setup
If SQ is your goal, then sealed would be the way to go. But I've found L7's really take to ported enclosures well, which if it were mine, is what I would do. They're more of an SPL sub anyways. But you'd need a good deal of air space...in excess of 2.5 cubes.

yea i was thinking exactly the same about the ported box. I was thinking i should prolly go with the ported and worry about SQ thru the mids and highs. Ive personally always used ported boxes in my car and am partial to them but i thought i would get some input first.
with that amp running one 12 in a ported box you are going to blow it...i got that amp running 2 12's at 1 ohm and i've blown 4 speakers already...they sound great in a ported box but i would go with a sealed box so u can play it with out blowing it
do u have a dual 2 or 4 oh m sub and are u going to wire it in series or parallel

You're doing something wrong if you've blown 4 speakers. The L7 (especially the newest ones) are extremely durable and will easily handle over their recommended RMS. Either you're not wiring them correctly, your box is not tuned correctly, you're not following the break-in period, or you're smothering them with distortion. But I've personally seen the same sub take 1500w rms without a problem.

Set the gains right, use a SS filter and a properly designed box and I see no reason it wouldn't do just fine ported.

My friend has 2 10" l7's in his mustang and it sounds good. Its ported. I did some homework for him on those subs before he bought it and accually read that that sub in a properly built ported box will accually sound better and louder than sealed. Just a lil bit i found out..
