Default component install question

on a car like lets say mine, a 97 gst, when the tweeters are mounted way up on the dash... that is a really big job to get the whole dash off and all that shit. i have run more amp kits in more cars and cd players and shit but is it really worth doing it or do i pay someone?

other ? is its just the 6 1/2 that is blown, can i through any old mid down there and use the same crossover and still use the tweeter up top, because those sound good...

ive looked around in here a little and some of you guys know your shit so help me out, i appreciate it

You could try the stock tweeter out with the new mid but you probably less than satisfied as most component sets are designed to work together.

I would suggest mounting the tweeter in the kick panel it's easier access and you'll get better imaging because the distance from the tweeter to your ears will be close to equal.

I also own a 2G. You don't have to take the dash out to gain access to the speaker up there. Just use a flathead screwdriver to pop it out. Extremely easy. The stock speaker is attached to the grill. I seperated my stock speaker and the grill and mounted the tweeter to my component set in it's place, and put the mid in the stock door location. This way everything looks stock and clean...still sounds awesome though. Let me know if you need more help, I've worked on these car ALOT and know them inside and out.

Nope I don't own an audio shop. I would love too but I don't...

I think you're talking about Troy. Last I heard he was working at sensuous sounds.

The only possible downside to putting the tweeter in place of the stock speaker is that it might not deliver the sound as efficiently as it might mounted, say, in the power mirror covers. Lots of people on dsmtalk audio forum have located them there, though.

That's true, and I was a little worried about that with mine...but it actually sounds pretty awesome up there. Plus, keeping everying in stock locations and out of view makes it less obvious I have a system to thieves.
